Your Raspberry Pi Projects

I once read that widevine, must be support on a hardware level?

Installation was not the problem its the download and install of Widevine that killed it. Every now and then it would fail and then I have to reload Widevine.
I see.
Can't say that I've experienced that issue.

For those using the Raspberry Pi 4, are you using a fan with the Pi? I bought a Raspberry Pi 4 with the casing and heatsink. Now I am told I need a 40x40x10 DC 5V fan the will fit in the Raspberry Pi case and the supplier doesn't have these fans.

Anyone know where I can get such a fan?

Have a look at these, https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/fan-shim . I saw someone had them available locally but they are kak expensive.

I bought mine as a kit, including heatsinks and a fan.

Edit: nevermind (removed link)- see it's a 12v fan, not 5v

Apparenlty it has to be a 5V fan. Everywhere I checked on the net says 5V. Yebo Electronics has a 40x40x10 fan but it is 12V. When I mentioned that I needed it for a Pi then he also said I must go with a 5V if i can find it.

Did you check Pishop.co.za - they're the best place for Pi accessories. Otherwise Robotics.org.za may have 5v fans.

That is correct yes, which is why I removed the link I had posted (there was a second link in my post for the fan only) as it was for a 12v fan and not 5v.

RS Components also has fans: 5V DC fans- altough a bit more expensive. I'm not 100% sure the fan I got in the kit is 40x40mm, but I'll try check tonight.

Nintendo Wii consoles have an epic 5v 0.03

A word of advice - a bigger heatsink does a far better job than a fan. See this:
Appreciate the advice but unfortunately the Pi has to be in an enclosed casing so that staff cannot touch the internals or liquid gets spilled onto it.

These are great

On the active cooling:
I'll post code and schematics for a small circuit to control the fan based on temperature of the CPU in a bit.
It helps with reducing unnecessary noise.
Thank you very much for this video. The Flirc case looks like the solution we need. We've been rolling out Raspberry Pi's in our work environment since original Pi, with about 500+ in the field. We're continuously installing more or replacing the older units. I need a simple solution to put them together and having to add a fan just complicates things slightly.
At this stage we're still pushing out Pi 3B+ and we need to find solutions and complete testing before stocks run out of the Pi 3B+.
