Zest T1

Got mine today..very happy with it and not as bulky as I imagined. The only snag is can't get 3G..sim card gets 3G in my other phone.Support says give it time so will wait till the morning but I doubt it will make any diffs.

I have the screen cover, I specifically asked it to be placed in my order as I need it so the plasticy zest screen won't scratch with keys and stuff in my pocket.

However, I want to stick a tempered glass screen protector on the Zest and not need the floppy cover. I have a glass screen protector on my s4 and s2,they are great against scratching and the touch feel is way better than that grippy feel a plastic screen protector gives

Did you calibrate it correctly? There's a setting for that in the display menu- Als_ps calibration
I had the same issue until I properly calibrated the sensor. I found it best to put it down on the desk with nothing in front of the sensor for step 1, then use an object or even your finger to cover/touch it, and for the last step, move object/finger away from sensor as stated.

Yup done that a few times, no difference at all.

Meh. Done the 23/06/14 update and my Afrihost Data SIM still won't work. It is picked up but the APN just doesn't seem to do anything - I kindly feel like there's more I need to do than just rename it and set "APN" to "Afrihost".

Another slight irritation is the plastic'y feel of the force feedback and slightly inaccurate keystrokes. Other than that, it's nice and fast and quite a solid phone.

EDIT: Data doesn't even work on my existing SIM like it does in my other phone. :/

EDIT2: Even voice calls doesn't work. Only Wifi. So I'm guessing neither SIM card works despite being detected & configured and showing the reception bars as full on G / 3G.

EDIT3: Ok so I'm a partial idiot. SIM 1 slot is right & 2 left. So I put my normal SIM in the right hand slot and it works fine as usual, but the Afrihost Data SIM still won't work at all.

So I've had mine for 12 hours now. Issues so far:

Touch screen sensitivity
-Battery percentage jumps- was on 40, jumped to 3, been there ever since.
-Samsung charger isn't long enough to make a connection
-Bit Torrent Sync- Cannot open any folders and don't have write permissions to SDcard1. Can't change either due to not root access.
-Power on off button is very iffy and too close to volume
-Cannot change lock screen wall paper
-Cannot get google authenticator to work. Suspect it has something to do with the system time.

Found that there is a global setting for where apps store data and so that is how you set camera to use the sd card.

Can an expert please tell me if there is a difference between the two sim slots. I have the Afrihost sim in the right hand and the Vodacom sim in the left hand slot. It seems to work fine. I just hope I don't get a bad surprize from Vodacom for a lot od data use!
I also have the Zest connected to my uncapped dsl empowered laptop when at home.
How do I prioritise the Zest to use the data from the laptop feed first before the data from the Afrihost sim?

The SD Card read /write issues are KitKat ones. Apps no longer have the right to alter anything on the SD Card that isn't theirs. Their folders are in extSDcard/android/data/Dev name/app name. So you just have to set the apps to use their folders as default.

Anyone else having issues with the proximity sensor, for turning off the screen when phone is against your ear on a call.

Mine turns the screen off and then on again continually even when I've got my finger held still against it. Most annoying as the phone then tends to do other things when I'm on a call.

This is the first time I'm hearing of this type of issue. Have you mentioned this to Zest via their Facebook page? They're pretty quick with feedback :)

For some reason my voice calls won't work on my current sim but its data does. I cant make or accept calls even though I assigned the right sim rights to it. Is there something I'm missing?

Afrihost data sim still doesn't work.

You will not get a big bill as there is no vodacom apn set up on the zest by default. Your zest will also, by default, use any wifi feed before using 3G.

On top of that, only one of the sims at a time can use 3g at any given time- easiest way to check is to see which one is provisioned for video calls- this should be the afrihost sim, as 3g is a requirement. If the Afrihost sim is in 3g mode, the other sim will be 2G only, also, you can set which sim to use for data- it really is as simple as that.

Edit to add: just look under data usage in settings, you will clearly see data usage per sim card.

You can choose which sim card to use for your data connection and also which one to prioritize for 3G networks. in settings under the Wireless & networks section click on more then go to 'Mobile Networks'. Under 'Data Connection' you choose which sim card is used for your data connection, under '3G service>Enable 3G' you choose which sim card are allowed to use 3G networks (The other sim card will only be able to connect to 2G networks, even if you chose the other sim under Data Connection).

When you refer to the laptop feed. Are you talking about a Wireless Network connection or do you want to share the internet from your laptop via USB cable (I'm not sure if it is possible at all to share the internet connection used by your laptop with your phone directly)? If you are using Wireless networks they are always prioritized before mobile data connections.

Hi Milomark,
Looks exactly like yours except Vodacom instead of CellC.
And my MTN sim is in the top line and Vodacom in the bottom line.
The allocations are the same as yours.
I checked my data usage and saw:
Wifi high - 110 Meg, MTN low - 10 Meg and Vodacom zero.
So it must be OK I think.

Thanks for the response.
I think I have the sim card issues clear and I'm running cool. See usage report I posted to Milomark.
I have a wifi setup at home - from adsl router and my Zest connects to this OK.
My Zest also connects to my Lenovo laptop with Bluetooth.
So now when I use the phone to browse or download apps etc, it seems that the Zest is using the wifi connection.
That's great because I have uncapped adsl from Afrihost.
My next objective is to use my Zest hotspot wifi to connect my laptop to the internet when I travel.
I'll test it at home first before I get rid of my Vodacom data dongle.

settings --> wireless & networks --> more --> tethering & portable hotspot --> wi-fi hotspot --> set to on

click wi-fi hotspot

click set up wi-fi hotspot

enter settings

I received my phone this morning, but whenever I try to do something, like open the menu, it just shuts down completely. I have it plugged in and it says 60% charged. Anyone else found this and is it perhaps a known issue with a workaround?

I saw the video from Afrihost on unboxing and testing the Zest T1. The two finger swipe was described therein.
I tried it on my phone before and again to-day. My phone does not respond to the two finger downward swipe.
Is it a setting issue and where can I reset it it to respond.
Please assist.

Standard developer response: It works on my machine :P
This is a [standard?] Android feature, and not unique to the Zest in any way. Odds are, you're probably just doing it wrong.
