Zest T1

Well, if all else fails, I'd try flashing the phone with the partitioning software that Zest provides on their site. Should remove and replace any fubar APK or system files on the phone.

PLEASE HELP ME
please i'm going to lose my mind. I first had to delete facebook because it wouldn't fit then i wanted to install an app and delete it afterwards in case i didn't like it. To clear space for the 7MB app, i deleted quizup, skype and shazam, and created 94MB free space. However the app store still won't install it saying there is insufficient space. There is enough space everywhere i look, and i have deleted tons of the phone and moved things onto the SD card and restarted the phone a million times. Please help me, it also now won't let me reinstall skype even though I HAVE ENOUGH SPACE.
please help me before i smash this phone, please!

Sounds like you need to install the firmware upgrade from Zest's website. The upgrade changes the partition layout to 50/50.
I was in the same position as you, the upgrade makes the phone very usable.

so I got the Zest T1 and everything was working fine until a few weeks ago.. a "squiggly" line resembling the teeth in a zip appear on the left side of the screen. when the phone is off the line appears white.

Afrihost collected the phone and replaced me with a "new" one.

Now this NEW one works fine... except the Camera app doesnt work. Its unable to initiate the camera.

I've tried going into Factory Mode (press and hold DOWN VOLUME button after you press your power button) - I tried clearing everything and doing tests on each item. The camera tests gives a result of "acdkIFInit Fail"

Also after viewing the Version info from the same menu it lists "Camera Main :NONE"

How does one download earlier versions of the Zest T1 firmware ? it seems the 14/07/2014 one may be buggy.

I've also tried to install different camera apps but to no avail.

When the phone boots after doing a factory reset the camera app appears for a few seconds before disappearing.

any help will be appreciated

The same thing happen to me when they were supposed to send me a "NEW" phone, the camera app failed to install upon initial start up. To top it off the phone wasnt really NEW, they gave me a refurbished phone and thought that I will blindly accept it.
I did not accept it! I returned it and demanded a refund (that still needs to reflect in my account, almost a week later).
I suspect that they have given you the refurbished phone that I returned. Please look at my previous posts where I have uploaded pictures of the cracks on this "new" phone.
If it matches yours, Afrihost is not doing good business at all!

The Afrihost rep that I was in communication with claims that refurbished phones can be supplied to us without our consent as it is stated in the T&C's. When I asked to see the t&c's (https://www.afrihost.com/site/page/terms_and_conditions/warranty_exchanges_refunds) the line "Afrihost reserves the right to replace the Mobile Device with a refurbished unit, which will be provided under existing warranty conditions." did not appear there. This was recently added and the date of terms been updated was not changed.

OK I got some feedback from our Zesty overlord.
It appears the battery problems are due to calibration errors.
These are the instructions they gave me to recalibrate the battery:

This happened due to the battery not being calibrated properly after flashing the firmware which is normally done in the factory. Simply remove the battery for a minute and shake it (this moves the lithium around the battery to maximize battery cycles), then pop it back in and charge it fully while it is off. Once fully charged turn the phone on and drain the battery through normal use until it reaches 15% then charge it fully while the phone is on. Drain it again to 15% and charge it fully. This should re-calibrate the battery for you and maximize each battery cycle

I have done the first part of it. Just need to wear drain it to 15% now.

Hopefully this might improve battery life as well

Has anyone tried this, and has it actually worked?

I guess I'll have to return the phone, as its no longer fit for purpose. Actually, I'll have to return TWO of them, the one I bought for my mom has the same problem.

Anyone managed to get the camera to store photos on external storage?

I did it and it appears to have worked. Getting much better battery life as well. Spent 20+ minutes browsing the web on WiFi with about 4% on battery.

Given that the only thing that can get damaged by doing this is your dignity ( Felt like an idiot shaking my phone battery), I would definitely recommend giving it a try.

Just got my Zest back from repairs - turns out they sent me a new/refurbished phone. I didn't have the same lousy experience as Yasheel with the cracks in the casing, but I also have no camera app. So tentative dealing with this phone now....I'm afraid to commit to it and set it up as a primary phone! Hahaha.

I'm going to try running the repartition patch to see if I can get the camera app back. We shall see what happens after that....

For those who LOST THEIR CAMERA APP:

I ran the repartitioning patch I had originally downloaded (I don't know if Zest has updated the one they have on their site) and my camera is back on the screen and working. The downside is there are a pile of other apps included in the repartitioning software, but it beats not having a camera at all.

If the current partitioning software on their site has no extra apps then it means it differs from the initial one they released.
Can anyone confirm?

This is weird. Now that I've flashed my phone with the repartition software, it's telling me my current version is Zest_T1_Africa_20140714 - which by the sounds of things is what you have?

I didn't actually check my version before updating, as I knew there was the missing camera problem on returned phones, so I went straight to checking that and went straight on to flashing the phone to sort it out. My phone also tells me its up to date, so even using the software I downloaded two months ago was fine. (Although, I know nothing about phone updates and software, so I could be missing something).

Like SykomantiS said, if anyone can confirm if there are a pile of extra apps and a working camera in the software from the Zest Mobile site (downloaded recently that is) that would help AzharK and others a lot.

My phone says Build number Zest_T1_Africa_20140714_UPDATE

Note update at the end. not sure if that's different from yours, or if you just left that part out.
Anyway. Seeing as I've had zero software related issues, I've kept a copy of the partitioning software on my Google drive for others to use. Not sure if this differs from that which is currently available from the Zestmobile site, but anyway, here it is again.

Hope this helps.

got my Z1 back after repairs and quite happy.

Got this phone for the dual sim, but it doesn't seem to be able to have both a voice call and data connection open at the same time? As soon as voice call call is established, the H drops on the status bar and no data.

All other issues - keyboard, google maps, partitioning seems to be sorted.

Yar. That repartitioning sorted the problem. But what a schlep !!!

Surely a fail from Zest / Afrihost

All dual sim phones i've tested do this. When a sim is actively in use the other one goes on standby.

So a call on simA will put simB into standby until the call ends
