Zest T1

To change storage go to settings>storage under "default write disk" select SD card.
In the camera settings next to "store location" turn on the switch to the right.

Now it is my turn to rant.
I got the zest and after the repartion it was fine.
My problem is when running waze after 30 minutes the phone just resets. This is annoying, has this happened to anyone else?
What is the fix, I have written to Zest and Afrihost and will see what they say is the solution.

Try what they suggest. It sounds like you have an isolated problem. I have no issues with Waze or Google Maps.

I have the address of their repair centre and will take it in next week.
This has damaged Afrihost's reputation in my eyes.

I'm having problems installing the repartition onto the phone. I'm using a win7 virtual box virtual machine as my current system OS is windows 8.1. I managed to install the drivers as instructed in the PDF provided, but their flashing tool does not recognise the device when I try to scan the ports. Is there anything I can try, or rather how can I do this thing directly in win8 (the drivers they provided gave me a driver signature error)? And can I use a different tool to the one they provided?
Do you have Vbox's host USB drivers installed? It's a separate installation. After you connect the device, check under 'Devices>USB devices' in the host window's menu bar (not sure what win8 does for a menu bar) and make sure the phone is selected.

Another battery-saving tip: if you spend good parts of your day connected to wifi, then disable your data sim connection. Go to "Settings">"sim management" and tap the switch to the right of your data sim to turn it off. Of course you need to re-enable the sim when you leave the wifi hot-spot.

This way you only use one cellular radio while on wifi.

I thought your phone, being android, would automatically terminate the data connection if it connects via wifi?

I use win 8.1 to do mine. You need to disable the hardware signature check in advanced startup settings to be able to install that driver and u need to change your regional settings to US to run the program

Correct, but it does not disable the cellular antenna for that data sim, so it keeps using the battery. My battery saving suggestion is essentially putting half your dual sim phone in airplane mode.

Zest is culprits after I questioned them on facebook about their deAl with Afrihost the actually banned me from commenting on Facebook sent the owner a message and was still ignored so that customer service for eventually sold my 10 device n stop doing business with them

Have to be honest, sold my T1, happier without it. Won't ever go back to Zest. Probably a fair price for the device, but the shocking interactions from CEO and comms team around launch put me off for life. My OnePlus rocks!

My OnePlus rocks!
Going off topic brucem - but the way Zest is going, off-topic is the route many of us will take, once our months of free data are used up. Perhaps the Zest threads should be frozen and stickies placed at the end of each pointing to: OnePlus One - $300 killer Android phone
must just wait for their dual sim smaller version, the OneMinus-One :D.

I would probably get the Lenovo P780. It's a bit less than $200 so a fair comparison with the T1

I've given up with my T1..battery life is not good.I'm in a 3G 900mhz area and the T1 is a 850mhz phone so I have no 3G reception at all.My cheap Chinese Utime dual sim phone is a lot better than than the T1.The Lenovo S660 is looking a better alternative for now.

I contacted both Afrihost and Zest.
Afrihost's response come straight out of a computer helpdesk enviroment:

Zest sent me new firmware which hasn't helped. A reset had to be done when using the OOKLA app that came with the new firmware. Phone still just resets when using waze.

Zest and Afrihost still need to respond on what to do next.

What is a good replacement phone that won't break the bank?

OK an update, I was told to take the phone into CRS in Lyndhurst, They would charge me R85 to collect the phone but I could take it in.
I have now been told it is an out of box failure and Zest will replace the phone.

Lets see what happens.

I got a full refund from Afrihost for the Zest. Had two and wasn't happy at all, but well done to AH for goodish service

I had a new phone delivered with the new firmware installed. I hope it lasts longer than the last phone.
