ZIM vs ZIM2.0

I rate Thabo, I'm disappointed he hasn't stayed for another term. He was always on a beating to nothing being Nelsons predecessor.
You are joking right?
I can guarantee you when we see the presidents to follow we going to wish Thabo had stayed for another term...
That I agree with. We are in for a rocky road

One has a democraticaly elected Government
So did Zim some while ago.

One has a stable currency
I read somewhere that the Rand is one of the most volitile currencies nowadays... and set to lose value even more (News24 article from last week).

One has an inflation rate below 14%
Still many poor people in SA that are severely hammered by the inflation as is.

One has an economy that reflects a positive growth rate
Declining positive growth rate.

One has a world cup champion rugby team
So what? Rugby does not put food on the table.

One has a Navy (need a bit of humour here!)
... which is severely understaffed and either has old equipment or brand new German submarines that cost an arm and a leg, and are useless here.

One has Nobel prize winners
So what?
And it doesn't put food on the table.

One has a University rated in the top 100 in the world
ONE University! Wow, that should just about cut it for the millions of hopeful matriculants that want to further their studies!

One is staging the 2010 world cup football
This still remains to be seen.

One has a booming building industry
With heavily inflated building & material prices and shoddy build and labour quality on the order of the day.

Mbeki is out after 2 terms, Mugabe is still in! Thanks God we don't have a Mugabe in SA. Only if we could fight CRIME!

Lets see what the ANC does if they eventually lose enough votes to an opposition party that a general election might be an actual contest rather than the wash it currently is.

Their approval of how Mugabe has conducted himself in his elections doesn't exactly inspire confidence of them gracefully accepting defeat.

You can't compare SA to ZIM...
But the way things look, we will be right behind them soon, so will most of the countries in southern Africa (they rely on us)

Black colleagues of mine were lambasting Mugabe today. Saying Mbeki is just as bad and crying that Zuma is not what they want.

One even said "We should let the white people govern again. They're not oppressors anymore. Give Leon.. err Zille the vote"

What a entertaining day at work.

Just let them dare vote for a white political party, and all hell will break loose.
The ANC will freak out when faced with the reality of losing power, and instruct the ANCYL to break babies' legs. I mean, the already picked up pointers from Mugabe's tirrany the last while.
SA will become a bigger sh1thole than it already is. Truly Zim 2.0

I'm certainly no positive Lancelot clone but there's still fortunately a *major* difference between Zim and SA!

Thabo's a disaster, I'm starting to think even Zuma will be better.

Now if everyone felt like that....

I have to agree with you entirely on this.

I disagree. He is this innocuous little man that's scared to upset anyone and/or lacks the backbone to. He lacks charisma and forcefulness and he is suffering from a bit of a mightier than thou syndrome but at the end of the day his docile and placid personality is also unoffensive, nonthreatening or obtrusive which makes him in my eyes a "safe" statesman to have.

Zuma on the other hand is the type of cowboy that would have committed our troops to the Darfur and Zim and every other African problem by now with calamitous results. He strikes me as the type of character that would recall the troops only in the event they were needed at home to subdue an uprising. He is the type of leader that would repossess farms and private property, under the new land distributions act, for his own personal gain be it financial or political. He is the type of leader that would deny AIDS patients ARV's because he is the type of man who is probably naive and skeptical to the threat posed by HIV and AIDS.

Once Zuma has tasted power he will hold onto it in much the same fashion Bob has and Zuma, unlike Thabo, has the charisma to garnish huge support to enable his dictatorship to last indefinitely... I fear him... He is dangerous. Should he govern responsibly he may be one of the greatest leaders this country has ever had but I don't believe he has a single iota of responsible DNA in his entire being...

Zuma's definitely a risk, there's no doubt about that. Mbeki may be relatively "safe" but his refusal to do anything, probably as you say because of his lack of backbone is the cause of many of the problems we face, just look at Eskom, crime, Zim etc. A lot of those problems are the result more of inaction than anything else, which is what Mbeki seems to specialise in.

I think because of the way Zuma's been portrayed up to now and the very real fears people have about him he'll, at least initially, attempt to show the world and the business community in SA etc. that there won't be a massive shift under his rule. Hopefully there'll be enough sensible people around him to constrain him from doing anything crazy like repossessing property etc.

I don't think Zuma's a good option, far from it, just possibly a better one than Mbeki.

If Mbeki (the dumb one) hadn't been so bad, Zuma wouldn't have gotten where he is today, and a Mbeki approved candidate might have. But Mbeki sucks so much...

Funny you should say that because there was this guy we had in power who did just that... what's his name again?
