Huawei B970/B970b HSPA Router

There is a reset hole on one of the sides.
I suspected there must be a simple way of doing it, but the manual is with the LAN cable. And I never even thought of removing the little base on which the thing stands... Guess will have to switch the brain on again!

IoU!!!!

morkhans, not sure if you can maybe assist or test?

Here's the original thread of mine:- http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/306879-Two-Different-Wireless-Routers-Connecting

Another friend is trying to connect two B970's together as well, wirelessly, to extend his range to another part of the house. Can it be done with the B970b? I've tried fiddling around with my B970's bridging mode, and I'm not entirely sure if the B970 supports WDS?

Any advice?

I have not delved into this. From looking at the other thread you need WDS. If you can't run a cable what about Ethernet over Power adapters? Alternately, buy two AP's that support WDS and use them for wireless instead of the B970. The B970 has a small Wifi footprint anyway.

help with B970 need 3G Gateway Update software image file for web updates

Hi

I have a Huawei B970 wifi router and the web interface keeps asking for the firmware for this as the the only way I can connect to this device is through a web page. This is what is displayed. I contacted my ISP Etisalat Egypt and they tell me they do not have updated software image file that would work through the web interface download, so I hope you can help me out so that I can reset back to factory default and then upgrade using ISP's executable update program from the laptop.

from browser i typed http://192.168.1.1/

3G Gateway Update Software

Step 1: Obtain an updated software image file from your ISP.

Step 2: Enter the path to the image file location in the box below or click the "Browse" button to locate the image file.

Step 3: Click the "Update Software" button once to upload the new image file.

NOTE: The update process takes about 2 minutes to complete, and your Gateway will reboot.

regards

Can you post a screenshot of the error?

If you're feeling brave then flash it with the Vodacom firmware as per the first post.

hehe....as long as you remember to do the update via ethernet, then it's a doddle.

Hi!
I've got on my b970 a firmware from telenor /hungarian/- looks like MTN firmware- because there is no DDNS function on it.
With telnet I can configure DDNS settings, and it works some weeks, but after it stopped and has to reconfigure again. So is it possible to put vodafone dashboard /with DDNS/ from-http://dc-files.com/files/huawei/routers/B970/-on my b970, but the sim card would stay telenor, and if it possible do I need change my firmware too or dashboard is enough?
Thank you.

Unfortunately it's hard to say, a couple of people have asked the question and I've told them it might work, but always there is risk when flashing firmware. Nobody has come back to say if it worked or not.

The Vodafone firmware in the first post is not networked locked, so any SIM will work with it.

Thank you very much. But what the difference between dashboard update and firmware update? Which one should I use it, if I just want to see the DDNS settings, but don't want to change the telenor sim card /no need to unlock/?

The B970 servers a dual role. 1) router - when attached to power 2) USB modem - when attached to USB.

The firmware update in the first post has a number of bin files in it which update different components of the router one of which is the dash (easily identified as UTPSVMCLITE_9.3.3.10523_RC3_UPDATE_B970.BIN). If you want to get DDNS then you need to update the router part which is the rest of the files. Using the update method in the first post you should be able to just leave out the UTPSVMCLITE_9.3.3.10523_RC3_UPDATE_B970.BIN file to leave your current dashboard in tact for when you use it as a USB modem.

There is no network lock in South Africa, so all firmware for here will not lock your device.

OK, I see the UTPSVMCLITE_9.3.3.10523_RC3_UPDATE_B970.BIN file when i open the b970 firmware zip file, so now I should delete this file and start the update process without this file? -as I read this dashboard bin file would be the last in the update process, so if I delete before updating it couldn't updated and the old one will stay and only the router part will change- am I right?. Anyway I would use it as a router not an USB modem /without usb cable/.Does it change anything in firmware update?
Thank you.

Correct, if you delete the file it won't load it.

Thanks for your quick reply!
I try to update, but before that some questions. Can I do the update make on win7 64bit?
And what does it mean, and how should I do this:
Assign yourself a fixed IP for your LAN connection in the same range as the default one. (i.e. 192.168.1.20)????
Thank you!

I have only performed it on Windows XP.

It means under your network settings turn DHCP off and specify an IP address.

OK! I updated succsessfully /without dashboard/. Everything was fine, but it doesn't recognize the sim card /telenor-hungarian/, and if I try to make custom profile, there is no opportunity to change the profile name to another provider /the window shows a lot of vodafone provider from around the world, but I can't write anything in it, only select one of them/, maybe should I update dashboard, or anything else?

Should you guys be able to figure out how to do a custom profile, I just googled and the APN= net

OK. I don't understand.I made adv. settings--dial-up settings--profile but after it at the dropdown I just can select from many vodafone provider but I can't write anything /t-mobile or something else/

You sure you are following the steps to create a profile as per the first post? Other option is to work your way through the existing profiles and find one that uses the same APN name.
