Huawei B970/B970b HSPA Router

Has anyone had any success configuring the B970b as a gateway for a server 2008 PPTP/VPN server? Tested on ADSL it works perfectly but the 3G Router seems to block something somewhere? Any helpful input would be appreciated. :)
 
wazarmoto or ocleroux: have you heard anything via the grape vines about an incoming new Vodafone router?

I see MTN are coming out with their Sh@relink router based on Huawei B683, which supports 21.5mbps download speeds, as the B970b's only support a max of 7.2 download.
 
Does anyone know where one can buy these cash (no contracts)? A Vodacom Shop? Or an IT shop? And how much they go for?
 
LOL!! Not at all. It's actually what I was expecting.

I saw on Kalahari.net they are selling these for R 2,400. Eish!

So R 1,800 is reasonable.

Trying to organise one for a friend. I borrowed him my B970b and yagi antenna and he's been using it for the past month. So now that he's happy that everything is working, he wants to get himself the same setup, but buy everything cash and use a pre-paid SIM in the router.

Will tell him to visit a Vodacom Shop. :P

3G Gateway Update Software

Step 1: Obtain an updated software image file from your ISP.

Step 2: Enter the path to the image file location in the box below or click the "Browse" button to locate the image file.

Step 3: Click the "Update Software" button once to upload the new image file.

NOTE: The update process takes about 2 minutes to complete, and your Gateway will reboot.

hi guys, i have a b970b with t-mobile austria network lock and want to use it on other networks. i have got unlock codes for my b970b but no idea how to enter it. i downloaded a tool named huawei code writer but it does not find my router. a also cant connect my router via usb, it want be recognized. running win 7 64 bit. i tries to download usb drivers from windows update with the error no drivers found. i tried it on my pc an hp laptop, on the laptop i countinously get the windows usb connect alert tone and immediatly the usb disconnect tone.
the router works fine at all, the only thing i want to do is a unlock so i can use my cellular sim and use its data quota when my tmobile quota is over :)

any idea does i can unlock it with my unlock codes and how to enter it into device?
does anybody have successfully unlocked a locked device with flashing vodafone firmware provided in the first post?
whats wrong with my router so i cant connect it via usb?

I think the only way to enter the unlock code is with the modem connected by USB. Have a look for Huawei Mobile Partner software, which will include the drivers, and install that on your PC before connecting the router.
 
@mafrek - Vodafone routers are flashed using a utility as per the OP.

@umbro - I'll second what ginggs has said. Install mobile partner and then attach the router via USB. I think however I have seen posts to say that some providers disable the USB port so you can only use it as a modem.
 
thanks for your replays, i have installed version 21.003.27.00.03. is there a new version out, it tooks me a lot of time to find this version some month ago. is there any site where i can check the update status of mobile partner? the online update function in the help menu is death.

That is the current version, it should be able to detect your B970.
 
What is the Cash alone price - Meaning no DATA bundle attached
