R50 Uncapped 24hrs - Discussion

This is crap man seriously someone must report MTN to ASA for false advertising. those speed are seriously no whats promised.

MAX speed of 128kbp/s after downloading the 150 mb, what is there to report?

cell C's 21mbp/s offering- does it offer you 21mbp/s? no it doesnt, at most ive seen 14.

i ask you again- whats to report?

The fact that you don't get 128kbps (12 kB/s), but rather half that speed and lower? I probably would not complain if I were getting a steady 128kbps after the 150mb but we all know that that's not the case.

I'm still trying to get my line sorted, spoke to a chap called Richard, funny he was the only operator that tried to help and actually gave me a reference number, well see in 48 hours if they manage to fix this mess.

The problem now is that I'm still only getting an average speed of 7kb/s.

Which is it? 7 kilobits per second or 6 kilobytes per second?

6 kilobytes per second (roughly 49 kilobits per second) sounds like GPRS/EDGE speeds. Are you definitely getting a 3G signal?
Have you tried another MTN SIM card in your device? What speeds do you get?

7 kB/s (KILOBYTES) is the speeds I'm getting. My other Mtn simcard gives me speeds of 2 mbps in the same device, it was the first thing that I checked. My phone shows HSDPA and 3g, I live in a very good coverage area so there is no problem with the signal.

The problem that I'm having is that after the 150mb fair use of a 24 hour unlimited bundle my internet speeds stays at the throttled speeds even after the the bundle has expired. Loading another 24 hour unlimited bundle will restore my internet speeds to 2 mbps until the throttle kicks in.

You can Provide a spped in excess of 128 kbps (proven by the fact that you can download 150 Mb quite quickly. So therefore its misleading to say the speed is throttled to 128 kbps as the actual speed throttled to is much lower therefore it is an active reduction of speed beyond the advertised 128 kbps.

I might be wrong but thats false advertising. I also use dthe Uncapped R50 last month only to find it slow down to a near crawl, well below the advertised speeds ie 128 kbps therefore its advertising was misleading.

Because I felt mislead I have not used the product again opting to purchase a data bundle from another netork entirely.

R50 Uncapped Throttling

Once you hit the 150MB cap u get throttled to 128kbps.
So why do i only get 60kbps / 7KB/s - send me back to dialup days.
When i used to have ISDN i got 128kbps / 16KB/s so what MTN is giving me now is false advertising.
This not a case for the ASA?

MTN 1 Day Uncapped R50 Deal Query

Hi,

I would like to know if the MTN 1 Day uncapped thing is also unthrottled like the uncapped Lite plans.

Thanks :)

I see. I don't think you can do more than a 1GB of download, this thing is 7kb/s download speed. Cant MTN be taken to CPA because 128kbps should give you a speed of 16kb/s

I bought the R50 MTN thing.

I have been downloading **** all day (and left it over night downloading).

I have managed to get 677.5MB of data done (before it expired). Average download speed of 5kb/s.

MTN 24 hour data bundle

Quite a painful experience getting the 24 hour data bundle loaded using my MTN loyalty points.

MTN guys, please you need to sort out this process.

Here are my issues:

1) When purchasing the bundle using your loyalty points via USSD, it doesnt tell you that you need to activate the bundle after you have purchased it. There could be hundreds of people who purchase it and then think they are ready to use their bundle. I only knew this because i bothered to call the MTN helpdesk to make sure all was in order
2) To activate this bundle requires you to use some fancy USSD number in my case it was eventually 141*6*5*3*1# - i was given a different 1 to use before this, which complained the service was only available to prepaid and top up customers.
3) Once you activate the bundle, you have to wait, according to the helpdesk consultant "anywhere between 2 to 24 hours" for the bundle to kick in. You get an sms to confirm. Again this is not communicated upfront. Why on earth why i purchase a 24 hour bundle right now if i only want to use it 24 hours later?

All in all,i think i had to make 5 calls to the helpdesk to get this thing activated on to then hear you need to wait "anywhere between 2 to 24 hours" to start using it, which is useless for me.

Thanks for nothing MTN.

And their loyalty points requirements are just too high anyway. I can never seem to reach that 1700 points. ( I think, for 24 hour). So have never purchased the 24 hour before on points. Otherwise, no issues with loading it and using it. It's just that 150mb is too low. Ever tried watching a video after the "reasonable use" is expired ? It quickly becomes unreasonable.....LOL..

That MTN 1 Day uncapped is a rip off, dial up is faster and its R50 a month for uncapped dial up (although I dont think anyone would want to use such an ancient technology).

I managed to use 700MB of data on the MTN 1 Day (I downloaded overnight too). I somehow get a maximum download speed of 7-8 kb/s when im shaped to 128kbps.

I know im not using that little devil again

Still havent received an sms - more then 24 hours later. Poor performance by MTN. I will be requesting a refund.

Just so you know sometimes you don't get a sms at all and the bundle already kicked in. So you might have already been on it and not have noticed.....

If you are on anytime then yes I can feel your frustration. If you are on anytime topup you could have check your balance to see if it was going down when using the internet.

That said that bundle is kinda a fail

Some people don't even get the sms!!!

And its a wonder why people complain about being over billed for data etc - how are customers supposed to know whats going on if no notice is sent?

What a disaster from MTN.

I have requested a refund here - lets see how it progresses.

I stand to be corrected, but it certainly was not mentioned in the press release.

tried an account yetsterday. They didnt lift the throttling :P i do get 15Kb/s after the 150megs though

They should not throttle till 150MB and then throttle to 15Kb/s for any downloads over 150MB
