its an excellent initial offering. Considering taking it up personally!
 
Mobile(8ta) to fixed line - peak 65c

Fact is... with telkom owning the fixed line environment, 8ta can terminate calls on their(Telkom) network much cheaper(probably free), Telkom just wavers the interconnect fee between the mobile and fixed networks... hence the 65c per minute for 8ta to Telkom numbers... while the rest of the mobile players have to pay 89c/minute... that, in my opinion, is a totally unfair advantage that they are exploiting to the fullest!
 
8TA: having re-read the original details, I can now see that this is more attractive than I first thought. I think the cheap calls to landlines, “time-back’, & cheap international calls are enough to make me port from Vodacom.

I’ll give Vodacom 2 weeks to make a competitive offer, else I shall exercise that most important consumer right – to choose the best deal!

Agree with you 100%. Telkom are really taking advanage of their fixed lines to produce unfair competition. They honestly should be taken to court I feel. The other operators should jump on this quickly and get it sorted out.
 
Guess my nokia 3310 will have a use after all to call Telkom landlines. Cell C for data and Vodacom for Blackberry.
 
Can we please add Virgin Mobile prepaid to that as well.

Just had a look at the options, looks as if the cheapest for me is to stick a Cell C SIM in my E72 and to use SkypeOut for fixed line calls.

In fact, looks as if I will be cancelling ALL of my Telkom services.

But was the other operators not given the opportunity to reduce interconnect dramatically, and they kindly declined ?

Fixed line interconnection is something like 15 or 25c. Not 89c.

This is well beyond just waiving the interconnect fee, Telkom is subsidising fixed-line calls just to keep fixed-lines relevant. Their on-net calls are R1.50, but if two Heita people were to just call each other via two landlines and have someone hold the receivers up to each other it would be R1.30 (65c*2). Can't tell me that makes sense without Telkom desperately wanting to make people use fixed-lines again.
