Inbound Connections / Unrestricted APN (Now Testing!)

Do you want/need an APN that allows connections initiated from outside the APN?

Still unable to access my Cell C unrestricted APN CCTV sites (41.55.x.x), or establish a VPN connection, from my phone when it has an IP address within the 197.104.0.0 - 197.111.255.255 range. (2 netblocks)

Been unable to get an IP address on the phone within the 197.168.0.0 - 197.171.255.255 range since early yesterday.
Looks like this range is no longer being allocated to handsets at the moment.
Anyone getting an IP in this range perhaps?

Access to the unrestricted APN is working fine from a 41.x address, Virgin mobile 10.180.229.225 and ADSL internet connection.

Both mine have been fine the whole time, except for this access from the 197.x range problem, that has suddenly cropped up again.

No Explanation it just started working however the speeds are very slow, damn slow!:(

Looks like it's my turn now.

One of my unrestricted APN's is not working since 10h25.
SIM Connects ok to "internet", but not "unrestricted".
Switched over to Vodacom unrestricted APN again for now.

Strangely enough, my other one is working ok, for the moment anyway.

Ja, nothing happening here either.

Don't even get 41.x on the normal internet APN, only 197.x.x.x
Wonder if they disabled the whole 41.x range from being allocated, including the 41.55.x.x unrestricted APN block of addresses.

Pretty much the same.

You get an application form to fill out and return with a copy of your ID.
May take a while though.

You might want to check mtn and 8ta.
I have an idea they don't restrict inbound connections.
Maybe check threads in the relevant forums for further info?
 
Still no joy,tried to phone the tech department, they cut me off Cell C ..................I do not know.........What do we have to do as consumers to get a professional, proficient,prompt, reliable telecommunications company in this country!!!!!!!

We are being ripped big time!
 
Cell C seems to have gone very quiet on the apparent "termination" of the unrestricted APN.

Any other "testers" actually still have this working?

At the very least, some feedback on the status of this APN could have been posted on this forum or emailed to the group of testers.
The fact that the whole 41.x IP range, of which this unrestricted APN was part of, is not being allocated any more, may have something to do with it.

Of course, this is all just speculation, in the absence of concrete feedback.
 
I have also been unable to connect to the unrestricted APN for quite a while now. I was part of the initial testers and was happy for a start, but it seems it is no longer available.
 
Unrestricted APN help

Hi Guys

We're currently using a Huawei E367 modem in a Zyxel NBG4115. This setup works perfectly using the normal "internet" APN but when changing the APN to "unrestricted" it refuses to dial a connection, which is strange since I'm able to dial the unrestricted APN from the CellC dashboard on my pc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...free noddy badge to the winning answer:D

Would be interesting to know what IP address you get when connecting to the unrestricted APN.
Up to now we have been getting 41.55.x.x (when it used to work)

You may also want to check the spelling of the word "unrestricted" in the dashboard setting.
We have found that anything but an exact match will connect you to the normal internet APN.
You could even put "mickeymouse" and it will still connect to the internet APN.
