Hi

I am getting poor adsl performance on my 4Mbps line. My ISP is webafrica. I have opened support tickets (which telkom have responded to). but I still only get 1.1 to 1.5 Mbps on speedtest.net. According to telkom there is nothing wrong.

My router has the following stats Netgear DGN2000 Firmware Version V1.1.11.0

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4096 kbps 512 kbps
Line Attenuation 10.0 db 4.5 db
Noise Margin 26.8 db 14.0 db

Are the stats normal/poor?

Any advice?

Thanks

+- the same speed with a D-Link DSL-2500U router. (1.7Mbps on speedtest). Is there a test account that can be used to test?

Check which WebAfrica account you're on.
They recently changed the package structure, and certain accounts get priority bandwidth.
Some packages, like the "Home" package, doesn't get the same results as the "Business Pro".

I have tested on a webafrica unshaped account. more or less the same 1.8Mbps on speedtest.

Where can I get a saix account?

Whereabouts in weltevreden park are u ?I'm in the same area with the same router and funny enough same ISP as you:

Here are my stats so u can compare:

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4096 kbps 511 kbps
Line Attenuation 45.0 db 24.5 db
Noise Margin 13.0 db 12.1 db

Line attenuation the lower the better. Yours is perfect. Noise margin the higher the better. I have similar stats to you and I have the same problem in Alberton funny enough

your stats are awesome. it's not your line. it could be a problem at your exchange or an ISP issue

So... my next question is... what do i do now? Since I have already complained to Webafrica twice. What's my best course of action?

Hey slurpy,

Drop me a PM with your client code and I'll have a look at a few things from our end :)

I have received the test account from Webafrica. I will test it tonight and let you know.

Thanks

Cool stuff. I believe that the agent helping you get this sorted out has also mailed you with some more details about this :)
Hope there is good news to post tomorrow!

I also need to mention that while playing World of Warcraft EU I get large spikes in latency. Sometimes making it impossible to play.

Also I have eliminated my PC as being a possible malware host that chews bandwidth by disabling it (unplugged it) and running the network test on my PS3. the PS3 reports a internet connection speed of 1.5Mbps which supports the above tests.
