The adsl backbone choices.

One backbone like mweb is not likely to be enough to satisfy the entire mybb user base.

When one fills up it should be a natural progression that we spread the users amongst the other underutilised backbones to ensure a good service and competition in the market.

I thought it would be good to start a list of backbones and the isps that sell them.

I will start with the ones I know, please look at the list if you are unhappy with your uncapped isp and looking for an alternative.

Mweb backbone (Mweb isp)
IS backbone (afrihost, openweb, axxess)
Altech backbone(altech technology concepts)
Datapro backbone(@lantic isp)

Some backbones don't have uncapped, at least as far as I can tell. These are: cybersmart, webafrica.

I am sure I am missing some isp backbones. Please add to the list any I have missed.

Shayd - what you are talking about is not 'backbone' per se but rather the operators who run their own IPconnect links.

You've missed:
IPINX
MTN Business
Vodacom
SAIX
BCSNet
AfricaINX

and I think that there are a few others.

This list contains many (but not all) major operators of IP networks in ZA.
 
I am mostly interested in the IP operators who provide Uncapped ADSL products, either directly or indirectly through "tier 2" ISP's.

So yes I missed some of the guys who have their own IPC capacity but I personally don't know who provides them to the market. Please folks provide the "backbone" name and the ISP that sells it.

I used to think the I.S backbone was terrible in comparison to the rest.

However being on Openweb gold unshaped , i must say i will eat my words as I find it beating my previous ISP on the Seacom(Cybersmarts non uncapped) backbone.(both quality unshaped products,by around 7kB's.)

Suppose its not a fair comparison due to so many aspects but this is the difference for me in terms of P2P.

Latency is higher then Seacom though.
