Unlimited hosting space and bandwidth at R18 per month

R1/month cheaper, with a 15MB bigger database...

Honestly - When dealing with non-free costs < R20 a month, the cost factor actually becomes rather irrelevant.

The question is then about service, speed, and reliability.

Do they both support FTP? How about trial accounts? What about a normal username?

Compare this to the following (International, and free):

MySite.JPG

- Edit -

Turns out they offer a free version.

Time to register, and test :P

- Edit 2 -

Banking Account Type: Banking details are required for all Hosting plans even free plans for the purpose of over usage charges and potential future upgrade purposes only, you will not be debited monthly on a free plan if you do not have a bank account please email [email protected]

....

- Edit 3 -

In the "New Account Setup" e-mail under "Login Details" the password and the word "Temporary" for "Temporary Control Panel" are linked, making it difficult to distuingish where your password ends (Looks like the word "Temporary" is part of the password) - Needs a space or something..

Looks very promising so far (Obviously fake bank account details - Hope they dont mind :p) - Currently uploading my site to their FTP (Got a temporary URL - Will link when my site looks... decent)

- Edit 4 -

http://41.72.149.244/~reelixza/ (Yes - Horrible Layout, I know :p)

Currently a temporary URL whilst I decide.

Excellent FTP upload speed, and instant changes (xtreemhost had an annoying caching problem when the files were the same name...)

So - That's all cool - Time to check out the cPanel stuff :p

- Edit 5 -

Their e-mail advertises their cPanel login as: https://41.72.149.244:2083/, asks you to log in using SSL, then Chrome complains with a giant red warning:

Code:
This is probably not the site you are looking for!
You attempted to reach 41.72.149.244, but instead you actually reached a server identifying itself as ns3.host-hu.net.

cPanel 11 though, so that's good :)

Sent a test e-mail to their support, got back an automated "We have received your e-mail", then an actual reply in 2 minutes (Yes - Approx. 120 seconds according to Gmail!)

AWESOME SUPPORT!!!!

- Edit 6 -

I've just noticed that in their "Welcome" e-mail contains the password you entered in the registration form IN PLAIN TEXT! They should obfuscate this, and not send it to you... First big bad thing I've found so far.

To Conclude

So, to conclude...

Whilst there are a few minor issues (Forced banking details for free accounts, slightly iffy password in e-mail) and a few major ones (PASSWORD STORED IN PLAIN-TEXT, Invalid SSL), there are some GREAT upsides as well (extremely fast FTP uploading, FAST RESPONSE customer support, local host)

All in all, the PRO's outweigh the CON's (The plain-text password is still bugging me though...), but overall it looks like a great hosting site :)

In response

Hey guys

Our website is up to date the 18 special can be found on our specials page only As it is a limited offer http://www.hostingunlimited.co.za/specials.html our other pricing still applies. As for no ssl on our check out I will make sure this is rectified within the next 24 hours.

Banking details on free plans are applicable because if you upgrade or exceed your allocated quota we need to bill you account details are validated with 2 hours of opening the account if they are fake your account is terminated.

Seems like a good deal. But more importantly, it's competition. And competition in this sector is GOOD!

Excellent, competition is always great! Let's see how they perform once they have some subscribers...

I agree with KaMoS. I just hope this or MWEB does well to entice more competition and hopefully result in a further price drop :D

Well well... I remember Hostgator's offer that was the same. Anybody know of what the "fair usage" entails?
