Web Africa Home Uncapped Feedback

It's always horribly slow or disconnects me a lot when running via Web Africa 4mb Uncapped, but my backup Afrihost account doesn't cause this.

Exactly the same problem. Disconnects every minute or so. So, you'll have 30 seconds to do something, it freezes for 30 seconds and then disconnects.

Was very happy moving from a 384kb package (Telkom ISP) to a 1mb package (WebAfrica ISP). Problems arose during January 2012 and upgrading to a 4mb package (Webafrica ISP).

When moving over to the 4mb Home Uncapped package I couldn't sync at 4096 kbps (Down). I only sync at 1880 max on a good day and that was due to Telkom connecting me to the furthest exchange possible (5.8 km away).

I did some research and found out that there was two DSLAMS within 1km from my place. I logged a ticket with WebAfrica who gave me feedback on a daily basis via ticket response or telephonic.

WA logged a ticket with Telkom to connect me to the closer exchanges. A Telkom techie called me to inform me that I'm too far from the exchange (which I knew) and I told him that there is two DSLAMS 1km away from me. He said it would make no difference.

I informed WebAfrica and they informed me that they will escalate the matter with Telkom. I was informed that it may take a while to change DLSLAMS because Telkom has to do it on their side. I know it's a "best effort service" but paying for a 4mb line and not even getting half of the speed? No thanks.

I'm sending WA a mail today to downgrade me back to 1mb. At least I know I'm paying for a "best effort service" I will actually get.

Ok this is now getting me really upset... TONIGHT THE INTERNET IS 100% UNUSABLE. Pings sky high, slower than slow browsing, no streaming, cant use it at all. Logging into any game takes 10 minutes.

This is now about 66% of the total time I spent on this account that it is total crap.

WA PLEASE FIX THIS, what is wrong???????

@wenervn - just a tip, submit your cancellation now and you can always un-cancel at the drop of a hat. WA can only cancel at month end.. im sitting with a 1MBPS uncapped that I don't want now for another 30 days, I cancelled on the 2nd.

I believe they do cancellations around the 20th. If I still have the same issues then its adios WA. A week ago WAJeff said things will improve in two weeks time. Heres hoping...

Well i dont know what is happening with you guys, but im on WebAfrica Home uncapped 4mbps and this is what i get!!!

only thing is my line is syncing on 8mbps download, so why am i not getting 4mbps instead of the 3.5mbps??

Why am I then not able to even get on speedtest.net????? I have tried since joining on the 1st... I have absolute bs internett, ffs :(

I have complained on 3 different threads for the last 4 days here, not even received ONE reply. I logged a ticket so will see how that goes :/

EDIT: After being unable to access even Webafrica login area for the most part of the evening, I have now at last been able, I see they have replied; so I will send them the relevant information.

I would guess that you have either:

1- a congested exchange or,
2- a line fault

yes i use newsdeamon 10 ssl connections

Oh ok. i use Newsdeamon too. but i dont bother with ssl. have you tried getting the cached stuff from WA's news server?

Test this morning, very near my 6hr threshold!! Best ping i have ever had to Newlands Server

i have used it, but i only download bluerays it is never cached :P

yep atm my speeds is very good, getting above 400kbs, which never happens .

01:00 - 02:00 2 502 298 994 bytes 2.33 GB
02:00 - 03:00 3 214 216 912 bytes 2.99 GB

hows that possible on a 4meg o.0

I'm on a 1meg and have had a lot of instances where I supposedly downloaded 600MB+ in one hour, which should be impossible. Their usage monitoring system is obviously full of k@kk@ :)

Recently opened a ticket due to usage always being tracked an hour late and all they told me was to stop my downloads an hour earlier. Since they receive usage data from Telkom/Saix it can apparently be delayed by up to an hour. I'm not really sure how this works but I thought since they have their own network they would be able to monitor usage almost in real time....guess not.

I've been following this debate with interest, as I get the same mixed-up usage stats. I found that although my usage shows I used b/w after 06h00 it has been taken off my DL+, not my Anytime. You'll see from these screen caps (http://mybroadband.co.za/photos/showphoto.php?photo=29525&cat=500) that although I used about 1,6 GB after 6 am today it took off the 1,1 GB I used between 06h00 and 07h00 from my DL+ and the other 0,5 GB I used after 07h00 came off my Anytime allocation. Very confusing!

I would love to see a solution to this problem.

As far as I know DL+ lasts until 7am but only data reported to WA by 7am will count.

So if you have a download running between 6am and 7am the usage may only be reported after 7am which means it will then count against your standard cap and not DL+ which is why WA states that it lasts until 6am.

Ok, I see. I'm not very happy about this. If you are going to have a system where you distinguish between two types of data allocation, then the system should also be accurate in keeping track of usage stats!

WA get your act together! :(

I can see why it's done like this, having a system that keeps track of every single user's usage per second on a byte level will require a lot of processing power and very very efficient code.

Just to clear things up on the accounting systems side, there's also a fairly large dependant on SAIX on getting the packets through.
