Are Powerline adapters good?

need to get the software so that i can test my speeds. streaming from server has become choppy.

Just ordered two pairs of these, they should arrive on Friday.

Moved into a new house and wireless just isn't cutting it. Hopefully these will sort out that problem.

These arrived today, must say I'm pretty impressed so far.

Hooked them up and got a solid ~11MBps (88mbps) transfer rate straight away.

And to think I almost went about drilling holes and laying network cables.

I beg to differ. Did not find any difference when plugged straight into the wall socket or into a multiplug. I use them in both setups.

Agreed. Ran an experiment with the adapters plugged into miltiplugs and they still performed well.

I have been using the TP link adapters for a few months now and it works perfectly, even with full HD content.

Also just to confirm, they work with no issues over multiple circuit breakers on the same phase.

I picked up an issue with my Linksys PLSK400 pair, the one is plugged into the UPS at the DSL modem and the other 4 port unit at the TV, this unit will only work directly connected to the mains and not via the UPS at the TV. It sucks as I wanted it protected from power surges on the mains. I am getting between 50 and 75mbps thruput across the pair which is great and streaming is happy with it.

I had mine fail on Wednesday. I scratched where it didn't itch, so no one to blame. It turns out these units is polarity sensitive. Make sure that the Neutral and Live of the 2 units is on the same N and L. Mine was working fine for months until I moved some around. All I can think of is that I got the polarities right firs time, but then screwed it up on Wednesday. All fine again after turning one in the power socket so the N and L swopped around.

And in layman terms?

i bought second hand. is this software you guys are using on the website for download?

I thought it was. As the unit gets power from the socket, it gets connected to the Live and Neutral of the socket. It also uses the Live and Neutral to Tx and Rx the signal. So, if on unit #1 you have the Tx on Live, then on unit #2 the RX have to be on Live. Something like that. You get the idea? It was just an observation I made when things did not work the way it was supposed to.

Basically make sure the left pin goes in the left hole on both units (i.e. don't plug the one in a different direction, which is possible when using two pin plugs).

Mine is swapped around and still works.
I have the TP link 211

Yes, but do you know if your wall plugs are wired correctly. Remember that most AC devices are not polarity sensitive, so although you plug something in and it works, the polarities might still be wrong. It might also be that with 2 devices there is no real issue, but when you have 3 or more powerline devices installed, it becomes an issue.

As I said, I had an issue, and by swopping the connection on a device, the problem went away. Maybe it was something else that went away in the meantime, but this is the sense I could make of it.

No offense but quite naturally the ups will kill the signal. The UPS is designed to give clean/stable power and will eliminate what it sees as interference which is your communications.

My adapters are still going like champs. Speeds are still ~90mbps, ping between the 2 furthest points is about 2ms.

Awesome, so which adapters do you have and how far apart are they?

I have two pairs of these Trendnets, so 4 units in total but only 3 in use.

Very small units these.

The distance between the two furthest points is about 20 meters, give or take.

Can you recommend a vendor that stocks the TP-link adapters locally?

I'd like the option of returning them if they don't work at my place.
