So after doing some reading and looking at myself in the mirror I am not happy with what I see.

In recent years I stopped smoking but picked up almost 60kg and drinking far too much. It doesn't affect my job but considering my age it will most likely get worse when I am older.

I have decided that I'll do the following. Already spoken to my wife and family to support me.

1: No more alcohol -won't be easy
2: Go onto a LCHF eating regime.
3: Get back to gym

Will post my current weight and progress of day 1 at end of tomorrow.

Starting Weight 125KG (Yeah I know) -31/08/2014
Current Weight 120.5KG -20/09/2014

60kg is not good. Do you have diabetes? The gym helps but is only one factor in maintaining weight. Will power is the most important. Stay away from too many hours in front of the computer!

Damn right it seems that I have started to develop diabetes. It is an absolute mindset and lifestyle change. I want to buy a bike and start riding again

I don't agree with the LCHF diet at all.

It cannot be healthy no matter how much weight you lose. Fat is bad for you.

60kg is a lot of weight that you've picked up and I'd say rather do a healthier diet and go to the gym. Do a lot of cardio exercises.

The hardest part will be not to eat when you feel hungry.

OMB is going to come in here and fck you up! :D

Geez Lino, that is a lot of weight. I would say maybe try the LCHF? I think they say people with diabetes have had very good results with it also. So it can help prevent it or lessen the dependance on injections or something. Maybe ask OMB about it? He is very well versed in it I think.

Geez I know it's massive. Better get onto it now.

The good thing is that going forward I'll be able to have even more braais :D

And won't be wasting it with mystical foods such as pasta or bread but rather MEAT!

I would suggest, with so much weight to lose, that you do it in a sensible way.

1. Go see your doctor.
2. Go see a dietician.

/looks at self in mirror :(

Bad fats are bad, good fats are perfectly fine.

Good fats are eaten on a typical LCHF diet, so what's the problem?

As to Lino - Good stuff man, all the best. It's going to be hard, but worth it.

Not too much though - I eat at most (aside from the occasional binge), no more than 200 grams a day.

A year and 3 months ago I was 164kg, today I am 98kg. I lost the majority of the weight without any exercise

Have you considered the Paleo way of eating?

I have indeed, I'll be doing Banting for now.

Lots of info : http://www.sleekgeek.co.za/

Thanks have taken a look quite inspiring.

Today so far I had two glasses of full cream milk. Supper will be a pork omelette.

Discovered today that it is quite hard to actually buy High Fat Meat/Yogurt etc. Everyone is so insistent on low fat ffs!

Having lemon water instead of my whiskey

Have a look at parkrun.co.za there should be one in your area it costs nothing and there is no commitment you wake up on saturday and if you feel like it take your barcode and go for a 5km run/walk and you get feedback on your progress.

MTB is also fun so its less about the exercise and more about the outing so I agree on getting the bike.
