Becoming Healthy Again

Vast majority of weight loss is achieved through proper diet, not exercise. But definitely start exercising otherwise you'll look like a floppy sack.

Also look at the reasons behind your drinking and address, those. Never good to be dependent on something as toxic as alcohol.

Also a good idea to restrict your red meat to no more than 500g per week, that's 4 meals. Watch portion size - people eat far too much. ITS ALL ABOUT MODERATION. America has skewed the moderation principle.

OMB is going to come in here and fck you up! :D

Geez Lino, that is a lot of weight. I would say maybe try the LCHF? I think they say people with diabetes have had very good results with it also. So it can help prevent it or lessen the dependance on injections or something. Maybe ask OMB about it? He is very well versed in it I think.

quite probably better for him as carbs get turned to sugars by the body.

What he will find is with the great reduction in gluten intake(breads, and other baked goods are not recommended) is that he will be in a bad mood for a while until his system adjusts.

While I do not strictly follow the High fat bit (I don't like fat on meat :o), I have to follow the low carb bit due to gluten intollerance.

Sometimes I cheat , and have a fresh roll. I do not like the lethargy and bloatedness it causes (that is besides the normal gluten intollerant symptoms)

I eat meat every day, sometimes twice a day. Probably about 8-10 portions of red meat a week....
No bread, cake, biscuits, pizza, crumbed coating etc...
Then I also eat eggs (5-6 per week min)
nuts
and fruit/veg
sometimes I'll eat a lil oats.

No wheatbix, muesli, cornflakes, simba(or other) crisps -as gluten is used as a flavour enhancer.

Most of Willards crisps are without gluten.
I may not buy store cut cold meats and cheeses, as they are often cut in the same area where the breads and cakes are baked, thus they are contaminated. So those have to be bought prepacked and sealed.

Best of luck to you!

You are eating too much red meat right there.

Should also consider that you need to consume 0.8g of protein per kg of body weight per a day.

So after doing some reading and looking at myself in the mirror I am not happy with what I see.

In recent years I stopped smoking but picked up almost 60kg and drinking far too much. It doesn't affect my job but considering my age it will most likely get worse when I am older.

I have decided that I'll do the following. Already spoken to my wife and family to support me.

1: No more alcohol -won't be easy
2: Go onto a LCHF eating regime.
3: Get back to gym

Will post my current weight and progress of day 1 at end of tomorrow.

LINO!!!!

Long time no see.

I say fk it. You only live once. If you are wanting to do it for yourself, good on you. If for someone else. Fk'em :p

I don't agree with the LCHF diet at all.

It cannot be healthy no matter how much weight you lose. Fat is bad for you.

60kg is a lot of weight that you've picked up and I'd say rather do a healthier diet and go to the gym. Do a lot of cardio exercises.

The hardest part will be not to eat when you feel hungry.

That is an extremely broad brush you are painting with there friend.

Why do you say that?

Have the test result to prove it :-( I can still sort it out by losing a hell of a lot of weight!

I will be missing my carbs and meat. Actually I have suspected for a while I have some form of gluten/weight intolerance. As I often suffer from stomach cramps if consuming this stuff.

Hope you are well buddy. I am doing it for myself as I want to look and feel good like I did once upon a time. Plus the health benefits are most important.

Don't remove alcohol completely, you are likely to fail then. You need R&R too. Just limit it. E.g. a bottle of red on a Friday.

Sugar & carb withdrawal - just keep strong, it will go away and you'll feel great !

Have started with baby steps. Walking the dogs 2 km every night.

Day 4 now, feel incredibly different, much less exhausted, strangely enough, I feel incredibly "happy" all the time. Most times I just break out into smiles for absolutely no idea.

Feel sleepier around 9pm, I used to go to bed around 11-12pm.

However, I am awake by 5am every morning and cannot wait to get out of bed.
