Have you stopped using Afrihost this month, or thinking about it?

SlowHands, my exact sentiments and experience.

I posted somewhere that I terminated on 25 June with Afrihopeless, and received mail confirmation from one Sheldon that the service will be terminated on 30 June. On 1st of July they attempted a debit order for fees for July, which I stopped of course Then on 3 June I get another mail that the transfer of my adsl to Telkom (they managed that too) will occur in 7 to 14 days. When I asked "what now, how long is 7 to 14 days?" yesterday, the latest threat/response is that I must now pay them for July, else they will not transfer the line back to Telkom. Now, if that is not extortion? They keep on denying Sheldon's correspondence confirming termination as agreed on 30 June, and some fool's head is stuck on an idea that I terminated only on 30 June. Utter crap - I have written confirmation thereof dated 25 June.!

They have absolutely no integrity or even shame to be so lambasted on public media. They deserve only one thing in my opinion: a slow painful death.

I have given them 24 hours to transfer the line, or I'll cancell my Telkom line and apply for a new one, and sue them out of the local (Vredenburg is local for Langebaan) small claims court for any costs incurred therein. Even if they 'win' a case for some reason, they still have to spend R1000's on travel and accommodation to defend the matter, and I will ensure they get publicity.

However, watch this space. I've given them 24 hours to transfer the line back. That is up tomorrow morning.

Tomorrow.......action!

yup!

I left them roughly a month ago for WA. Like a flick of a switch, all my stuff (low latencies, streaming, download speed etc) just WORKED...after I've been told a couple of times that "it's my line"..."it's my exchange"...blah blah toothpaste...(I'm now with VOX who's even better IMO than WA)

ITS AFRIHOST, THEY SUCK END OF STORY!!!

Are Afrihost and MWEB the same company? They are using the same chapter from the same excuse book? Confused I am.

the funny thing is though...even if it WAS my line...they should have dealt with the problem by contacting Telkom on my behalf...as my line at that time was with AH as well.

Copied directly from their site:

Afrihost Powered DSL Lines
Everyone could use a little less stress! Having your DSL line managed elsewhere means you have multiple bills and have to occasionally do a little more admin when you’ve got some internet problems! Let us do all the heavy lifting for you. Moving your line to us means that we take care of everything to do with your DSL line rental, including troubleshooting when there are problems. We’ll log faults with Telkom and follow up so you can relax while we handle things for you - you’ll always have peace of mind!

EDIT - now I'm not saying that they "never" did any troubleshooting on my behalf...but in my experience I always had to phone in and follow up when there were problems...it was always just one excuse after the other...

Have you noticed, most all responses from them start like this:

Thank you for your email :-)

I hope you are well.

I really apologise for the connectivity problems you are experiencing.

If they would only stop spending energy on apologies and start rendering the service they purport to render.

Same email format here... its a machine spitting out the e-mails

I cancelled my Afrihost account a week ago because of latency issues with online games. I'm looking at going to webafrica, but I'm not entirely sure which ISP is best for gaming

Webafrica has test accounts, grab one and see for yourself. IMO latency is quite good on WA, and roughly the same on VOX...but overall VOX for me is just a better deal.

Ive set my notice to cancel my 3 gig mobile data package which i had from day one of launch. If the data carried over i would have stayed with them. Swapped to Axxess for R2 more i get data carried over for three months. Hope the speed is hight LTE speeds.

Got a really funny one to tell.

Line starts syncing at 2 megs on a 4 meg account.

Keep in mind, I had a 4meg account with mweb, ow and ah - all the same line. Never had a sync issue.

I mail the ''help'' desk. They suggest I have a line issue and downgrade to a 2 meg line (its all Telkom as usual) .... to which they add, ''have a great day''?

My response was simple, but effective - ''Bullsh*t - you have been charging and supplying this 4 megs for over a year, fix it or I leave''

Suddenly - I am back at 4 megs.

I wonder how many other customers are paying for X megs and getting half X ?

Will I cancel .... well I am certainly getting there.

well, if you decide on Webafrica, you might as well do someone a favour and do it through my referral link (in my sig), otherwise my personal choice currently is VOX. When you get away from AH you'll see improvement INSTANTLY!!

Just a quick Q: does Vox's 100gig special end at the end of this month? Am I reading right:

Out of bundle rates charged at R10/GB

Lol I canceled on Sunday last...
Done with AH since yesterday... Moved over to the VOX side lol

Cancelled with Afrihost two months back and only joined Vox telecom for their 100GB fat pipe promotion this month. Afrihost disappointed me with their sudden thirst/ hunger for more money. Afrihost Plus+ is just a stupid invention. :p
