Have you stopped using Afrihost this month, or thinking about it?

If your ISP is having issues, fiber is not going to help you one bit.
I am waiting for all the threads later where people will be bitching and moaning they cannot get the throughput on their fiber connections and high packet latencies, et-cetera.

It's not Telkom/IPConnect affected fibre.

I actually had 0 complaints on AH, been using them since February..until last week. Really horrible packet loss since Thursday, other ISP works 100% :/

that was our problem. both my son and I were playing local servers and getting about 50% packet loss, switched accounts and getting no loss.

Why would you go back if another ISP works?

Afrihost 50Gb + 50Gb = R199 pm

Vox 50 Gb = R170 pm

I actually need about 100 pm, and the budget is tight... :(

Afrihost was excellent for me for over two years. It's just recently tanked. I'm hoping it will return to what it used to be. Naive of me maybe, whatever.

I'm considering moving away from AH as well. Streaming Twitch is so inconsistent. Sometimes I'll be able to stream just fine on high quality and then other times (read "most of the time") I can't even stream at speeds over 0.8mbps on a 8mbps line. Afrihost claim it's the Twitch servers but the people I speak to in Twitch chat never have issues.

^^^ This.

Been with AH for well over 5 years now. Since about Sunday been facing between 60 - 80% packet loss. Unable to connect to things like TeamSpeak or play a smooth game of Dota.

I am moving to VDSL from the 1st of July, so had to cancel my AH managed line to get it back to Telkom before they would move me to VDSL. Will see if my experience is any better, but will probably end up moving back to Afrihost. Can't fault them for having one bad period over 5 years.

Really depends on your usage.
WA has capped packages that are R149 for 200GB, with 40GB from 6am-12pm and 160GB afterhours.

I'd be paying for something I wouldn't be using. Add to that the similar issues WA is having to AH in the Cape / South. The vox feedback thread is the quietest around here so it was Viva! Vox for me. :)

Put in my cancellation, going to try WebAfrica.

Can't handle the packet loss in dota and my mates never being able to hear me on TS.

Also to add the Throttling on torrents pretty much all the time regardless of usage.

Ya

Been using IS backbone accounts this month and zero issues. Not one.

No load shedding, exchange issues or anything else that was claimed to be the culprit in the Afrihost realm before their big capacity deficient reveal... the IS accounts are just working even during the exchange "contented" periods.

So... I guess I will be doing the cancellation thing as well as no ETA or even a rough estimate of a time-frame other than the AH patented "soon".

This was predicted 3 months ago... yet AH dragged it out with the usual run-around-the-mulberry-bush routine.

/meh

Bwahaha, I've been saying this since way back in Feb this year... But no.. They denied any issues with their capacity and it was just "High" demand at the moment.

I have a 2mbps business account and I'v also cancelled with afrihost this month, just can't handle the latency and packetloss anymore. It just got progressively worse as time wore on and there was another issue with inconsistent pings to mweb servers, but downloading and streaming was mostly unaffected as my line speed is only 2mb.

I'm moving to a crystal web 4mb home premium uncapped package and I just hope their current shaping issues are sorted by the end of the month.

I left Afrihost some months ago, when the rot really started to set in. Now with WA, and while they're not perfect - occasional long latency, etc, they are way, way better than Afrihost. The problem with Afrihost is nothing to do with IPCs, the network or anything technical. The problem is that AH view their customers as victims to be stolen from. As a result, there are huge accounting problems (which mysteriously are always in AH's favor), no investment in infrastructure, etc.

After sticking with them through all the MTN drama and things gradually improving before eventually getting worse again, I switched over from uncapped 4mbps home to capped thinking Afrihost Plus would get me the ~350GB/mo that I needed within roughly the same cost envelope.

It turned out the capped products already incorporate Afrihost Plus double data (this wasn't clear at all in the marketing material). I complained that the Afrihost Plus product made no sense in light of this fact, and they'd wasted my time. I basically got back a response equivalent to "Cool, thanks". That settled it; cancelled and asked for my line to be transferred back this month.

I test drove WA uncapped 4mbps - not sure why it's getting so much praise here; 89GB down in a week and I was at 1 star. I can barely browse on that account now. I've switched to a temporary capped account and haven't connected to the WA account for 2.5 days now and it's still on 1 star. This is simply impractical because it's so unpredictable.

So now I'm looking at trying TI, as the next level WA uncapped plan is far more expensive (WA business uncapped 4mb is 949 vs. TI home uncapped 10mb is 999). But those numbnuts can't even get their online ordering process to work, and so far they haven't called me back. Really irritating.

I wish somebody would just give us a "shaped capped" account so I can plan properly - I need 12GB/day, end of story. I'm happy to pay around R1.2k p.m. all in (month to month only, line rental + ADSL rental + data) for a reliable min. 350GB data any time, with flexibility, and there seem to be so many companies with a solution at that price point but in reality it's still a crapshoot - maybe it'll work this month but next month who knows.

Afrihost have been having major issues for the past week as per their Network Status page.

This has affected me pretty badly:

Can't skype (voice only), drops packets and makes conversation impossible.

Pinging their website stops for 15 seconds, stopping all network traffic during that time.

Gaming lag has been horrendous, can't get a low or consistent ping, local or international.

TCP connections getting dropped, and UDP packets getting lost.

And they call this a DNS issue.

So I really am beginning to wonder.
