Telkom battered and confused

Ok so a couple of problems with this article.

Firstly, we all know Telkom doesnt call you, especially at 7am, unless you owe them money that is.

Secondly, Theres no news in it, just rehashes of stuff we have all read about 3 or 4 times last week alone.

It seems almost as if there is only one story a week and the journos just rehash it in a slightly different form from day to day.

been battered and confused
for so long its not true
wanted competition
never bargained for you
Lots of people talk
and few of them know,
the soul of telkom

Personally I feel that anyone that gave in and became a telkom customer should not throw stones. You made your choice, and there are a lot of alternatives. Fixed line is over rated and if the costs are too high elsewhere, just download less.

I am proud to say that I have never been and will never be a telkom customer. So what if my data goes over telkom networks in the end, at least I am not a customer.

our ISP service is nothing more than a collection of fascist-inspired-motherless-penguin-humping-money-hungry-monolithic-son's-of-a-bitch's.. does neotel have the resources to bring about uber change? I sure hope so but seems as though there isn't enough people signing up for the "orange beast" as yet.... leaving me to wonder whether maybe the gross amount of people who wanted DSL dont already have DSL? and whether maybe we as a nation already adapted to shti standards and prices and got so weathered that even if neotel works we as a people wont just stick with the tried and proven connection option we are utilizing. Especially individuals who signed up for, and who is utilizing a 3G contract? Just my thoughts thou and would love to see the competion putting up a fight and being rewarded with customers, thus attracting more customers..etc etc

hehe... I just called Neotel to sign up for their R99 a month option as a backup for our business. Had to call three numbers to finally find who to actually sign up with. The first guy said he would call me back, never did. I called again. The second guy said they are having problems with their computer systems bombing out on them so they can't complete the sign-up. He also said he would call me back. :(

Welcome to Telkom 2.0!!! :p

So you have never made a call to a land line or an international call? amazing.

In many instances there are no other alternatives. Don't let wireless monging cloud your judgment.

Maybe when the charity fund is looking good again, MyBB should send Rouxenator and johandutoit2000 on the required Comptia courses to educate them on the limitations of wired and wireless technologies :p

I have, as I said, I may have data going over their network, but I am not a customer and I never will be. I cannot violate my morals in that way. Becoming a customer of theirs is a no-no, I'd rather use smoke signals if that is all alternative.

There are always alternatives and wireless, be it mobile or fixed, are very good. I know, I have used them. If they do not work for you then you should take a good hard look at your downloads. Do you really need all those series and pornos ?

Fixed lines are really so last century. So is telkom. And if you have a telkom line, well then, so are you.

Who "needs" series and pornos (well maybe sex addicts)? That really isn't the point. There are many other reasons one could be using large amounts of data; video-conferencing, video sites such as YouTube, VoIP, browsing sites that require a lot of data.

That is the point of "broadband". Broadband isn't just there to speed up the downloading of your email. It has redefined the way the internet works and more and more sites are taking it for granted that visitors have access to a high speed connection.

And I have tried mobile alternatives. The results have been less than stellar. One moment you’re speeding along like the internet was parked on a server in the next room and the next moment it feels as is someone just stepped the hose. The data flow slows to a dribble.

While Telkom's ADSL offerings are not the fastest, they are, at least for me, relatively stable.

Hahahaha, i wish i could as well. A 2 minute call from Scotland to south Africa cost me R42,58 thnx to telkom. (and it was in off peak times )

I manage quite nicely doing all those at 2mbit/s and I pay below R500 each month. That is using a fixed wireless provider. Before that on 3G I kept below 2gb per month and it was still cheaper than getting fixed lines.

My ISP is more stable than Telkom ADSL and it is a fixed wireless provide. Sure at 9c per MB it is not the cheapest, but I still have moral values and they do not allow me to become a customer of Telkom. Thats just wrong.

To be honest, there still is no viable alternative to Telkom yet, when it comes to fixed wire.

The government really should get rid of Ivy and managed liberalization, and throw the market open - that will kickstart things for sure.

I used truphone and spoke to my wife while she was in Japan and it was for free. Perhaps a few megabytes at most and they cost me 9c each.

Ok Mr Smarty-Pants, find/develop a radio communicator and receiver for alarm system monitoring that will be compatible for all alarm systems distributed locally supporting more than just basic telemetry and ContactID.

I hate to break it to you sitting on Cloud #9 surfing from your little wireless connection, but wireless technologies aren't as mature and cannt provide the same level of service and fixed line networks.

I can't help but think Neotel are squandering their opportunities due to poor service and worse coverage.

Bully for the original author if he happens to fall in a coverage area, but most of us won't see coverage for a few years if Neotel continue to rollout at the speed they have been.
