Surely customers who are unhappy with the increases should simply cancel? Never heard of anyone dying from a lack of TV.

I think they underestimate the situation. We will see in a couple of months as to whether they add another cheaper "option".
 
if it weren't for the supersport channels i would have cancelled my dstv sub a long time ago. of course monochoice know this, so they will never offer a supersport only bouquet and we'll just keep on subsidising all the other channels on the so called "premium" bouquet. makes me sick

Actually, 8% price increase in the cost of a basket of basics from Pick 'n Pay translates into their employees demanding 8% increase in wages. They are only increasing their primary offering by 6%.

Pick 'n Pay enjoys a 21% profit margin, and is doing little to nothing to be; as they say: "On your side".

Now, go to your employer and demand the increase that you too deserve.

This is exactly what we did. Paying over R600 for DSTV is insane...especially since most things are repeats. :confused: :cool:
 
They just gave away over R14-million in "In it to Win it" ... they're now running at a "loss" and have to recover R140-million as a direct result.... :(
 
Same bouquet of channels in the states will cost you 16 dollars?! I'm waiting in anticipation for the competition but not holding my breath. In the meantime I am a radio 702 junkie!
 
Operating costs increase every year?... yes this is true if you're adding to your business and improving the offering. Multichoice have not done so for awhile, so I don't see how their "operating" costs have increased.... and surely the increase would be the same across ALL the bouquets... not between 5.8 and 10%...
 
Wow, R500, entertainment piracy via the web has never been more justified. Rather take that R500, add it to your current average R500 for your Internet budget, get uncapped, and go bos.
 
What MonoChoice conveniently forgets is the basic business concept of increasing sales, to generate more revenue from subscribers. This would more than cover any increase in operating costs.

BUT .... they have not increased their value-offerings (e.g. more HD channels, less repeats, bug-free decoder) at all.

This dissuades potential new subscribers from buying into MonoChoice offerings, so there subscriber base is not growing to offset operating cost increases.

So, their strategy is to carry on screwing existing subscribers with annual price increases, while not improving their service offerings .... after all, we don't have an alternative to move to.... hence MonoChoice.

Talk about a captive audience!

You make a valid point, as prices increase it makes more sense to download the shows I want, and with SEACOM coming I may just cancel DSTV by the end of this year.

It is only for this reason that the sub is so expensive. Multichoice know this fact all to well, and can keep pushing the boundary further and further. I'd hazard a guess that the non sport channels cost a very small percentage to purchase, it's all old rubbish anyway.

It is likely this reason why the prices went up yet again? So that Naspers can continue to sustain the same profits from it's biggest Cash Cow, Multichoice and keep their Shareholders happy from the remaining subscribers that did not suspend the service.

I was actually taken aback the other day when my neighbour who has substantial means simply came out and said he was looking at all his unnecessary expenses in his monthly bills and according to him DSTV was first to get the chop.

Think about it, if they offered DSTV at R100 the whole country will signup tomorrow.....but naturally businesses don't think like that.
