*yawn*. Actions speak louder than words, lets see it happen already!

Interesting...

I would like to know what Channels they're looking to launching with.. it might be enough to make me ditch Dstv if they're decent channels.

“MultiChoice welcomes the new competitors into the industry. We believe competition will attract investment into the broadcasting industry and the South African economy in general,”

Translation: "NOOOOOOOO!!"

MultiChoice’s Jackie Rakitla, general manager of corporate affairs, however says that a model where customers choose their bouquet is simply not commercially viable.

Translation: We don't need to offer our clients choice because we can shaft them for channels they will never watch because, hey, who else are they going to use?

sorry - no pvr - no interest!!!

or maybe just get one of them mVix PVRs ?? probably work, decoder to pvr to tv.

Im going to inform more people about this and i will subscribe with then from day1. Im tired of Monochoice.

How do you know that channels do not get watched? Just because you do not like a specific channel does not mean the next person won't love it.

So how do you a target a market? should they take one person and ask them and only run those channels that the person chose? Kiepie show me a sports service anywhere in the world that is better than supersport.

It will near impossible for someone to come and try target the sports customers of DSTV that is for sure, there coverage of sport i think is world class.

That's EXACTLY how they should target a market. Most satellite providers these days allow their customers to choose what channels they want to watch and charge them accordingly. Multichoice forces you to pay for channels that you will never watch.

RE: the decoder
Will you be able to use any "off-the-shelf" decoder capable of the DVB S2 standard, or will they also fix it to their network like MC?

In June Multichoice will probably "beef up" their Compact package citing a "renegotiated contract" with their suppliers.

with On Digital Media (ODM) planning to launch their first services in the second quarter of 2009.

Incorrect. They are only launching towards the end of the year. I see their site is down for maintenance. Hopefully there will be more up to date info now.
