the recipient will be liable for the cost of the call at their applicable out-of-bundle Vodacom-to-Vodacom peak or off-peak Contract package rates

Hmm, so no use of bundle minutes :(

If you do get those please call me messages often, and from the same numbers, phone Vodacom and tell them what's happening. They will send a notification to the number to stop, and send you a reference number should you wish to open a case of harassment at the cop shop. Worked like a charm for me!

Woohoo! Nice service. Now I can get reverse call spammed by bored ignots. YAY!
Luckily Vodacom provides me with the op-out of this feature option?
No?
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARG!

Yet another excuse to make some customers cross-subsidise others, instead of reducing prices to make communications more affordable for all. They tried to use the same argument in defending their iniquitous interconnection rates to ICASA. Surely they've noticed that most of their customers (at least, according to their own prepaid stats) cannot afford to make calls on their network.

These guys are becoming more like Telkom every day...

This is bull-****, why should i pay if other people have to call me.

I am sick of "please call me" from numbers that i dont know, i dont call them back, and they always different!!!

How will this system work if my cell phone is old?

And on top of it, thay dont even let one use their "bundled airtime", (that
we pay for at the end of the day)

Telkoms 50% is really showing here!!!!!

This is TOUCH! Props to Voda! Yet another FIRST from them. Now, who wants to be the SECOND:D???

Ok, ok, maybe its not that brilliant, but lets appreciate the innovation:cool:

Interestingly enough, in the United States its common practise for the receiver of the mobile call to be the one to pay for that call.

Doubt MTN will even implement it, I hate the idea. But then again who am I :o

Thank you for the lol

Firstly, you don't HAVE to pay. Just reject the reverse call.

Secondly, if you have an old cellphone you can still use it...is it so hard to press 1 for yes and 2 for no or however it works?

At the end of the day it is a money making racket - should report them to the Mob for stealing and have them bumped.

Why all the hostility? If you don't want to use it then don't, I'm sure some people will find it useful.

A Vodacom customer who wishes to use Reverse Charge simply dials 082 180 plus the full cellphone number (example 082 180 082 123 4567) of the Vodacom Contract customer he/she wishes to call. The contract customer has the option to accept or reject the Reverse Charge call.

Ok, but then how will we know its is a reverse call, will it show on my screen that it is one.
What i am trying to say/ask is if this is a standard GSM function that will show on my phone as a reverse call to my phone.

With all calls I have the function to accept or reject so how will I know that is a reverse call to my phone.

2nd: I have no problem accepting calls from friends if the cost came out of my free bundle, but to pay out of bundle is a joke.

I'm guessing you'll answer the call and there'll be an IVR saying "This is a reverse charge call from x, press 1 to accept, 2 to reject..."

Yep:)

NEW SERVICE: VODACOM REVERSE CHARGE SERVICE

...
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. What is the Vodacom Reverse Charge service?

The service enables Vodacom customers to make a call even though they have no airtime available, whilst the Vodacom Contract customer bears the cost of the call. NOTE: The service is an Interactive Voice Response (IVR) based service.
...
5. Can customers choose not to accept a Reverse Charge call?

Yes. When a Reverse Charge call is directed at a customer, they will receive the following IVR message: "Please confirm whether you are willing to accept Reverse Charges from <MSISDN> by pressing 1. Should you wish to reject the call, please press 2". If no response is received after 10 seconds then the reject command will be assumed. NOTE: Customers can choose to block the Reverse Charge service or restrict numbers from which they do not want to accept Reverse Charge calls. Simply dial *111# and select the option.

Bit draconian to slate a service if it's not applicable to you, don't you think? Not sure who's holding a gun to your head?

While it might not be applicable to you, there would be many uses where this will work, (kids, employees readily comes to mind). But then, I guess, we only have one type of user on the mobile networks and you're that person? Any other requirement, by any other kind of user is bull-****?

Maybe read the FAQ I posted a few days ago on how the system will work and how you can disable it, if required.
