10 Mbps ADSL upgrades continue

LOL, just phoned 10219 and eventually got hold of a consultant, this is what they said :

"Sorry sir, currently we only have 384, 512 and 4meg lines"... Told him I logged onto their website on their DSL checker and it says my exchange supports 10megs. Silence...

Is there any other number that I can dial to get assistance in upgrading my profile to 10meg?

This essentially means that if there isn’t an adequate concentration of high bandwidth users in an area capable of making use of ADSL 2+ the exchange won't be upgraded.

I'm not even getting more than 1meg on my supposed 4meg capable line. Gotta love Telkom and their "world class network". NOT!!!

once again i bring this issue up. so now they say that they will not upgrade the old infrastructure unless there is a business case for it. so the people that will not be upgrade in the near future, why should they pay for the fastest dsl package when they will not have access to it for some time. i still feel that this 'upgrade' should have been provided as a 4mb replacement with the 4mb dls becoming the faster dsl and drop the 384 and 512 for a 1mb fast dsl package.

and for the record i am a 4mb user, not a sour grape low speed user.

Lol. It's a joke anyways. I live in an area between Dainfern, Lonehill and Fourways in Jhb (which could arguably be one of the nicer areas) and I pay for a 4MB line. I have written off the 10MB since my line only syncs at 2MB and Telkom don't appear to be in any kind of rush to fix their infrastructure. The funniest thing is, the person who lives next door to me is plugged into a different box and he has been upgraded to 10MB but his line only syncs at 1MB. Good times. ^_^

10Mbps is GREAT but only if the sites you are looking at also have 10Mbps bandwidth..

It's all good that we are getting 10Mbps, but if the servers you are getting the data from is only running on 4Mbps or less...then that's the max line speed you will be getting!

I believe that the seacom cables are only allowing 4Mbps of bandwidth....so almost pointless if you are downloading stuff from oversees!

I went earlier this year from 384 to 4 meg. All of a sudden I had constant drops in connection every couple of x minutes.
With 4 calls to Telkom they fixed: 1 of the 2 twisted wires were dead of the line, replaced the cable from wall to PC, limited my line speed to various speeds.
All this didnt help. Then I decided to buy another router than the Billion Telkom provided. All of a sudden all issues were resolved.
What one of the more capable technitions told me when he tested the line is that it can handle max 7.2 meg.
Going to the Telkom 10meg checker I do qualify but Im willing to bet that ill have a choppy unstable connection again...
So I would rather Telkom just leave my line well alone. 10 meg would be nice though.

Why not ask the guy next door to go half with you for a Axxess uncapped account, it is split 2mb a piece. might save on bandwidth costs. :D

Yes. Telkom knows.

ok.

fine. let me be more specific.

apart from hell****, does anyone else know when or how or whats happening with the bergvliet exchange, when or if it will be upgraded now or any time in the not too distant future?

I was downgraded to 6mb as a 'fix' for connection problems, later found out it was something unrelated but now telkom refuse to take me back up to 10 again.

Guess they've been told to categorically refuse all requests from people calling in to be upgraded. How annoying.

I am in Bryanston which has been upgraded. My 4Mb line offers a grand 3.40 Mb download and 284Kb upload. it has not been upgraded and apparently won't be according to the Telkom website. Is there any way that I can get 1 Mb on upload from anyone. During the day this socalled 4Mb line slows down to 128kb on occassion. What a joke!

our exchange is not even capable of handling 4096kbps let alone 10mbps!

The only bad thing that I can see many people, including myself, will get upset about is that we're going to be paying the SAME amount of money for a 4mb line as people who are getting 10mb. How can Telkom justify this market division that they're causing?

I think the person at the helm of this 10mb project should be dragged out into the street and shot in the head.

To be fair Telkom should charge us pro rata for our connection speed. I pay for 4mb actually only getting 2,5mb and pay the same as those now getting 10mbs. When will my exchange in Northmead Benoni near the high school get upgraded ? Telkom can't tell me that. Is it in Telkoms got to do soon list : who knows ? I am being shafted by Telkom but can do absolutely nothing about it. As the Afrikaans expression goes " *** en betaal "

Can some one please cheer me up.

I believe that you believe in the wrong info...

Lewis further explained that exchanges with existing ADSL infrastructure won't be upgraded to ADSL 2+ unless there's a business case for it.

So my exchange currently does support ADSL (G.Dmt) no ADSL2+ so they won't upgrade it cause it allready has ADSL infrastructure???? I have a very stable 4MB connection only downtime I ever had was when my phone line died, because of Telkom's sloppy cabling on the pole in my yard. The box still hanging upside down after them being here more than once.

1. I'm at 7Mbps on G.Dmt and 2.5km from the exchange, so the statements about distance and ADSL2+ should refer to capability, not the actual profile you end up with.

2. All the main roads in Paarl are being dug up for fibre optic cables. This happened at the Clareinch exchange before it was upgraded, and I assume that the 10Mbps rollout process requires time for new infrastructure to be installed.

Well they are reporting on newsworthy stories so it makes no sense to stop reporting them for your sake. If you feel so hard done by don't open these forum threads or read the stories simple as that.

On my exchange in Bloubergrandt, Cape Town im currently syncing at ADSL2+ so hoping they get around to it eventually the call centers are useless :]

is that 021554?
