10 Mbps ADSL upgrades continue

Great! All is not lost and there's still a sliver of hope ... I'll take it :)

still waiting for them to upgrade the benmore exchange to 10mbps

Do you get this message if you have a 384 line by default?

Is this checker thing the last word on the matter?

you get this message on any number that is not in the database imho, try it with your cell number and you see same message pops up as
This service can not be converted to 10Mbps Fastest DSL at this stage. Please check again in future as we are continually upgrading the network.

on my dslam i can sync as dsl2+ though not yet at 10mbs...

I doubt Hellkom could even organise a piss up in a brewery.

Maybe that IS the problem...they are trying to.

I would like to know the REAL figures of how many people have been upgraded. And don't give me this 19 000 BS, I don't believe that for a second.

I think Telkom needs a new head of strategy. Their current strategy has left myself and many others paying for 4 mbps lines which are not capable of delivering even half that speed due to congestion on the Telkom network. Now they come up with this kind of twaddle. They really have no clue do they...

Whenever I get frustrated with the fact that I live in Pretoria and still have a 4mb connection, I think of my parents on the West Coast still having to make due with dial-up / GPRS / wireless companies. Neither telkom or the cellphone operators want to upgrade their infrastructure for better data connections. Sad.

The only bad thing that I can see many people, including myself, will get upset about is that we're going to be paying the SAME amount of money for a 4mb line as people who are getting 10mb. How can Telkom justify this market division that they're causing?

I think the person at the helm of this 10mb project should be dragged out into the street and shot in the head.

Hmmm lets see.... 384k -----> 512k -----> 10meg

Yup that makes a lot of sense!

And I am still waiting for the allegedly ADSL enabled exchange in my small town to give me ADSL. *phones Telskelm* Nope, nothing.

Thanks for nothing Telskelm.

Can MyBB please stop with the articles on 10Mbps ADSL when the majority of SA "broadband" users are sitting on 384Kbps which is 26 times slower?

If Telkom gets its act together and upgrades everyone to at least 1Mbps connections, that would be a news article, but telling us about 10Mbps upgrades again and again and again is getting really old.

And when are 384k/512k people getting upgraded? hmmm? since in other countries these connections aren't even classified as ADSL....

:wtf:

Well they are reporting on newsworthy stories so it makes no sense to stop reporting them for your sake. If you feel so hard done by don't open these forum threads or read the stories simple as that.

On my exchange in Bloubergrandt, Cape Town im currently syncing at ADSL2+ so hoping they get around to it eventually the call centers are useless :]

I heard of someone who "accidently" crashed into their exchange and so telkom had to install a new one and now they can get 10 mbps.

3.There must be suitable ADSL line conditions (i.e. maximum 1.8km from exchange)

/spit

It's amazing how I can be 5km away from every single exchange in my area in the middle of fricking Northcliff...

/sigh

its luick of the draw... 3 friends on one exchange... two are 10 meg, one is 4 meg. Explain that Telkom.

I noticed my speeds over the weekend jumped from 450kbps to between 800kbps & 900kbps and then after 10 minutes dropped back to 450kbps. happened on and off all day. not sure what this means though. Its been running at normal 450 speed since Monday though.

Guys, just tried the adsl checker on Telkom's website and this is what it says :

"Your exchange supports up to 10Mbps fastest ADSL. The provision of such a service is subject to port availability, distance, copper quality and line sync speed limitations."

WOOOOHOOOO!!! So now how do I go about actually getting my line upgraded cause I'm still syncing at 4 meg??

Has anyone else experienced something similar to this??
