10 Mbps ADSL upgrades continue

Really wish they would hurry up with the Gateway exchange! I could use that extra speed

This service can not be converted to 10Mbps Fastest DSL at this stage. Please check again in future as we are continually upgrading the network.

Do you get this message if you have a 384 line by default?

Is this checker thing the last word on the matter?

They may be upgrading 4k to 10k, but many of us can't even get basic adsl because they won't add more ports to some existing exchanges - I have been waiting since April 2010 :-(

To make it easier for ADSL subscribers to know if they are in line for 10 Mbops upgrades Telkom recently launched their DSL 10Mbps Availability Checker

whats a Mbop ? wasn't there a song like that a few years ago ? :)

ROFL...... Cindy Lauper ...She Bop... ? I'm actually still happy with my 4m(b)ops cleans 11 times faster than 0,384 m(b)ops :) or are they called mobs ? Anyhow waiting in anticipation TELKOM ....

Telkom simply refuse to add any more ADSL connections in Sunninghill. Not laying new cable to the entire area. What BS is this? Anybody found a way around that?

Does Telkom not get the conundrum? It's like trying to log an OutOfMemoryException, or a StackOverflowException.

This essentially means that if there isn’t an adequate concentration of high bandwidth users in an area capable of making use of ADSL 2+ the exchange won't be upgraded.

How do you get high-bandwidth users in an area, if Telkom only give us crappy 384K and 512K lines? How do we qualify to get more, if the qualification criterion is that we need to use more? We can only use so much on crappy 384K and 512K lines.

Telkom dimwits. Sigh....

I read this as "If the majority of users on the exchange are using < 4 Mbit connection, we won't bother upgrading the DSLAMs"

1. The exchange must be ADSL 2+ capable
2. The exchange must be served by Metro-Ethernet
3. There must be suitable ADSL line conditions (i.e. maximun 1.8km from exchange)

I qualify for those requirements, yet I am still waiting. My other line at work which is on the same exchange was upgraded weeks ago. This must be Hellkom's best kept secret as nobody can tell me when my line will be upgraded. Hellkom are better at keeping secrets than the CIA.

The question however is your ISP ready???????????????????????????????????

LOL - as always IS has the tail end...

I am in Hillcrest and am sure I meet the criteria as well - but no 10MB line...

Where is Sunninghill & who told you this? They are adding ADSL connections daily in Leeuwkop Road (Chilli Lane) area. :)

how can they decide ... they cannot offer this service to all 4mbps users but only those with 2+ if there is no 2+ in that exchange buy it ... whell atleast in main areas (Jhb PTA Cptn DurBz ect)... if I had the money I wold take these fu..k.ers to court and make them give me 10Gbit undetermand line via ftth.....

It means that it will not be a high priority. Exchanges with the highest concentration of current 4mbps users will be upgraded first.

How do you improve the priority ranking for DSLAM upgrades?

Apply for 4/10mbps service and get an order number. These open orders (waiters) appear on the Planners' lists and are used to determine future upgrade capital projects.

I have a 384 line and my neighbors have a 4 meg line. A few days ago their service got disconnected and they phoned Telkom to sort it out - while they were on the phone to Telkom they asked if the line was able to be upgraded to 10 megs and they said it was but when I enter their number into the service checker thingy on the Telkom website it says it's not available in this area????
Obviously that checker is not the final word on availability so do yourself a favour and phone Telkom and ask them to check.
