not really have u tried to download from p2p programs

very slow

if you only have a 384 line your speed will be the same on the news server

i got a 512k and news server been going at 36kbs most of the day :)

i usually get around 54 which is slow for my line i think

I have a 4mb/s line which means I get pitiful speeds from the IS server. Compare this to 400kb/s+ internationally from easynews and it is a lot slower.

That's why I said - a lot slower - because it is.
 
on a 4mb line :
atm im getting 50kbps......in the night it prob wil speed up to about 100kbps...... sometimes it even reaches 200........

I have seen it at those speeds but even then you cant compare it with constantly over 400kb/s can you?

Now if you can pull that internationally over IS lines why not locally?

If the files are cached locally then you can get some good speeds, but anything that has to be requested from overseas seems to be capped at a max speed of 40 K/s lately.
 
ya but bwana not everyone has a 4meg line

alot of us dont :)

so to the majority of IS users the speed is pretty darn good :)

to the 4 meg users its not so good :)

I dont think we should ever be grateful for a substandard service. They need to up their game one way or another.

If you were hungry and someone gave you a crap sandwich would you still be grateful for the 2 pieces of bread?
 
its better than having no news server like saix clients........but i agree it is not upto scratch

hey like they say everything good in life comes at a cost....

Saix has a news server, news.saix.net. But it's really crap with a low retention period or something. ;)
 
I'll be honest - I have a IS account and a SAIX one that I use in conjunction with a shared easynews account. IMO it's the best solution for the flawed environment we're forced to endure.
 
yes telkom rape us but IS are doing their bit to make us happier

and they better than telkom for local :) and much cheaper

and there news server rocks even if it only 40kbs

i love you IS keep up the good work

Hi folks,

Next month i will FINALLY have adsl as well, after what seems like an eternity.:D I am still fairly new here on the myadsl forums, but have been reading here quite a lot the last 8-9 months.

There are just a few things that i would like to know with regards to the IS news server:

1. All of the content that one can download off the IS news server (tv series,games, movies etc) is that content stored on the IS news server itself ? or is the server just a "gateway" to international news servers through which one can download like mad ?

2.Can one for example download a nzb file from nzb-chat.com and then download that nzb file's content using the IS news server with a program like GrabIT?

There was a few other questions that i had as well, but when i remember them, i will post once again.. If anyone can give me clarity on this it will be greatly appreciated, seeing as i am already on the lookout for a ISP, and so far openweb seems to be the business.

yes thats exactly what you do

i download a nzb file import it into grabit and it downloads :)

openweb is the business with their 30 gig for 139

best deal out there
