Hey Friends,

Just a quick note. We will be offering complimentary trial accounts of our ADSL uncapped products until Wednesday.

If you are considering moving over to OpenWeb, and would like to try befor4e you buy, please email [email protected] with your ADSL line speed, and trial account request.

Happy downloading,
MrBEEP

Hi Hambone,

We will be giving out trial accounts until Wednesday.

Each trial account offers a trial period of 48 hours :)

Sorry, but are you giving out accounts until Wednesday or will the trial period be until Wednesday?

MrBEEP

what backbone do the standard uncapped accounts use ?

These trial accounts, on which of openweb's packages are they based? I signed up for a trial account but my latencies seem to remain pretty high in online games, getting the same results.

Hey 6Darkie,

They are on Standard Uncapped, unless requested otherwise.

It sounds like you could be dealing with a Telkom fault. I would suggest you call them on 10210.

Could you also post a tracert for us here?

Hey MrBEEP

I'm going to sound like a complete noob now, but what is a tracert and how do I go about doing it and posting it to you? Thanks for your quick responses, it's really appreciated :)

The standard OW uncapped accounts did not impress me - rather disappointing, to say the least.

It seems the only real alternative (comparative to old Axxess - IS backbone) is the more expensive OW Gold Uncapped accounts; http://www.openweb.co.za/go_gold_uncapped.html

OpenWeb Vanilla 4 Mbps = R 395.00
ObenWeb Gold 4 Mbps = R 738.00
Plugg (Internet Solutions) 4 Mbps = R 429.00 = promotion and seems to outperform Gold accounts.

So considering OpenWeb's prices, why not go directly to IS and signup with; https://www.plugg.co.za/?_page=product_cat:t_Multi Column Table&id=54&showtable=true

Could you please comment on this?

If you could also confirm that you do not place any additional shaping on your accounts and if your OW Gold contention rates are higher or lower than Plugg's offering?

Your forthright and comprehensive response would be appreciated, as I have quite a few clients to advise before month end.

Many thanks

m

Hi who.is.michael,

In all fairness, you logged on to your account for no more than a minute when we furbished you with a test account, logged off, and then fired off an email informing us of how bad the account is.

From my experience, it is impossible to gain any form of accurate result in less than a minute. Our accounts are performing wonderfully, from Vanilla to Platinum.

Gold has a lower contention ratio and higher priority on the network. It is not my position to comment on other ISP accounts. I can however say that Gold has one of the lowest contention ratios in the consumer market, thus its popularity.

I think you are mistaken (identity) - I am not using any of your test accounts currently?

Pity, I would have preferred a forthright answer.

Plugg it is, it seems.

You tested an account about 3 weeks ago...

Excellent!

If you are in the market for a new ISP, you may email us: [email protected] for a complimentary trial account.

We are happy to put our money where our mouth is, and have you try before you buy :)

Hi MrBEEP

I've figured out the tracert as you asked (hope I did it right). I'm on the trial account as we speak and this is what the tracert gave me:

Mr Beep

a few questions for you:

1. are these test accounts different in an way with the account we will eventual sign up for ?
2. what accounts are these ? the standard ones or the gold account ?
3. whats the acceptable limit for a 1mb account - 100gb per month ? or is it like a rolling 30 day window ?

thanks
