2007/2008 WI tour to SA thread

Not to harp on about umpires, but the older ones are sure having shockers in the field.

Rudi Koertzen did not refer TWO run out desicions to the 3rd Umpire and they were both out.

Yeah, but really who'd have thought that the one run out was out? Only Boucher appealed. There was a passage that had four run outs in four balls (not all of them sent to the third umpire) - the most exciting part of an otherwise reasonably dull match. :)

Yeah, it was exciting when it was drizzling and every over could be the last - with pollock holding the Duckworth-Lewis scores for added tension.

Don't forget to add one!

Sorry, bit late to comment on tests - but overall, though Windies much better than previous tours to SA.

Injured Gayle returns home

Chris Gayle, the West Indies captain, will fly home to the Caribbean after admitting that his injured thumb and hamstring will not heal in time for him to play in any of the four remaining ODIs in South Africa.

Yeah, that is a big pity, but I think that Bravo is doing well as captain and there are a lot of exciting younger players in the team. Hopefully this will be an opportunity for them.

I'd like to see a better WI team because a) close matches are more fun and b) the Windies are the coolest team in cricket and it would be great to see them being one of the better teams as well.

Whats happening with Chanderpaul? He's playing like an idiot!
I think they should bring back Sarwan, Chanders missing him!!:p

Duminy played well... Very glad he finally kicked on and converted his 30's/40's into a big one. He has got talent, no doubt!

Smith's 1 has got to be about his bad/dodgy knee.

Next ODI, would like to see M.Morkel getting a chance ahead of Ntini. Give Botha also a proper go at Newlands, that is, if they pick him.

Just heard on the news that Gibbs will replace the injured Ontong. Hope he can get out of the crater he's batted himself into.

Oh, and Newlands does not have back up power. So if viewers have electricity to watch the game, the stadium might be lights out :(.

Gees what's with these guys? They get their big break and then they break down, Neil and now Justin!!! Unlucky for them. Yeah last chance for Gibbs one would imagine, no pressure Herschelle...

It's weird, Gibbs seems out of touch in tests, but not in ODI's. Yet he wasn't dropped properly for the tests, but he was dropped in ODI's after failing once. Did we forget that he demolished NZ in the last ODI? Or that he's ranked among the top 10 ODI batsmen?

Any particular reason for a batman to have differences in form in the different formats of the game over continuous periods?

mmm... yeah test cricket pressures are slightly different, less fielding and bowling restrictions in test cricket so if there's a bowler who's been successful in getting Gibbs out in the past he can bowl all day at him. also fielders can be placed in strategic positions to further put pressure on the batsman.

But I think Gibbs is a very attacking player and perhaps test cricket doesn't suit his instinct.

Well i'm off to the crickey today, lets hope the Windies put up a massive score batting first and an exciting chase plays out ;)

Otherwise i'll just have too drink :P
