2011 Super Rugby (Super 15) thread

I'm surprised. When I last heard Alistair was waxing lyrical about Januarie...him being so fit & slim & fast & good looking...

This Lions vs Cheetahs game is so lol ....... and they want some of these guys in the Bok team? Eish, another lol.

No super 15 game on Saturday evening at 19:00.

Just a loser Vodacom cup match.

For Shame.

It was actually a bloody good game that. Pampas winning 27-22. The Blue Bulls are yet to record a victory this year in the Vodacom Cup.

It might be time they actually appoint a coach after Nico Serfontein departed to the Lions. Coaching by the management is clearly not working.

As for my Cheetahs team. I usually always have a positive outlook and try to point out what they need to fix but this time I am just preparing myself for taking the record from the Lions for most consecutive losses. We are going to end bottom of the log for sure.

I've always been adamant that our biggest problem is the back line coach Hawies Fourie and after 4 rounds I am even more convinced of that.

Cheetahs forwards are great and they always get us on the front foot. They are also the guys who set up most of the tries by working hard up front. Johnson, Philip vd Walt, Brussow, Floors, Coenie Oosthuizen all had good games apart from a silly error here or there.

But then you get to the backs. They are without a game plan and have no idea what to do when they get the ball. They fail to establish overlaps and create space for the runners. They never run any supporting lines or good angles and just bash it up with the hope of somebody missing a tackle.

And ^^THIS is a coaching issue. Hawies Fourie is just plain unimaginative.
He has Sarel Pretorius, Sias Ebersohn, Andries Strauss, Robert Ebersohn, Riaan Viljoen, Philip Burger, Hennie Daniller, Fabian Juries and even last year Jongi Nokwe. A great group of players that form a nice dynamic back line but yet he fails to come up with a plan to create space or line breaks for the speedsters. His one dimensional plan is still to bash it up and hoping to break a tackle. There is no off-loading in the tackles(That left with Meyer Bosman when he departed to the Sharks) There is no running at different angles to surprise the defence. Nope, just u/12 rugby. Giving it to the bigger boys and trying to run over the defenders.

Anyway. RANT over!
Sharks and Crusaders looking real good this year.

Still haven't seen the Sharks game. Recording the replay of the game (tomorrow, me thinks). But by all accounts it was a good game with 4 tries for the bonus point away from home, nice!

Team and player stats for the first 4 Rounds of Super Rugby is up Ruggastats.com

Here are some of the ones I picked out for our Facebook Fanpage.

Crusaders carried the ball up 99 times and crossed the advantage line 81.8% of the time.
Sharks had 88 ball carries and crossed the advantage line 82.6% of the time.
Stormers missed 18 tackles against the Highlanders with Bekker and Duvenhage both missing 3. Highlanders missed 9 tackles
Highlanders could never get going as they made 53 forced/unforced/handling errors and conceded 11 penalties.
43 missed tackles in W Force vs Blues match. Blues missed 21 & Force 22. Brett Sheehan & Luke McAllister missing 4 each.
Philip vd Walt made 16 tackles, assisted in 4 and missed none. Also had 8 ball carries with 2 line breaks and 2 off loads as he gained 70m.
Lions won 100% of their set pieces against Cheetahs. 11 Line-outs and 11 Scrums.
Forget about Stormers missed tackles. Stormers had 66 carries and gained 676m. Highlanders had massive 151 ball carries and gained only 895m.

I am a Stormers fan, but I think if the Highlanders didn't have so much unforced errors it would of been a totally different ball game. Habana for me was not great, but saw a little bit of improvement. Defence was great, but attack nothing to be desired about.

APLON why didn't you just run, instead of offloading the ball. But a WIN is a WIN, so go Stormers and lets walk all over the bulls on Saturday

two things:
Christchurch stripped of all games; and
Kaplan must go

On the first: I think it is really sad. If the whores that are screwing us out of our money to make this complex Super15 thing are doing it for the money and the development of the game, here's their opportunity to make a difference. No rugby in Christchurch would be like having another WC here and leaving out Newlands or Loftus - basically, it is a sin. Understanding that this is for logistical reasons doesn't improve the situation for me.

Dicky Stew. Best ref ever. Actually, most of my chinas diagree - they don't like him. But I do because he is the only ref I have ever watched whose treatment of both sides has been equally abysmal. Kaplan? I just don't like him!

This David Lord chap seems a bit of a hater. See he has a go at Andre Watson too... He give examples from a game in 2006 and the Ireland - Wales try as reasons why Kaplan should retire. So 2 "errors" in 19 years??!!!! I've seen refs that make 2 every 20 minutes. What a f ucking joke this Loyd dick is. He should have a look at European refs if he is looking for incompetence....

A lot's been said about Kaplan and the touch judges getting the call wrong but what about Rees, the cheating Welsh hooker?? He deliberately went out of his way to deceive the officials, he contravened the laws of the game which resulted in the winning try being scored. He should be cited and banned for his actions IMHO.

I'm with you on this one. There's been many a world cup hosted in less than perfect circumstances and/or surroundings. I think most people visiting Christchurch would be sympathetic and empathetic of the conditions experienced while visiting the city. To alienate the people of Christchurch now, in their hour of need, is criminal!!!

Agreed - his particular examples are pathetic. But I can remember games (mostly Sharks ones, so I didn't care) where JK really ruined the game for me. Plus, I just don't like him.

I agree. The only time ive seen Kaplan make bad mistakes is the Brumbies vs Rebels game (but thats debatable) and the Wales vs Ireland. Thats it really. Check a lot of the comments on theroar are taking a swat at David Lord.

Adi - thanks for kicking the ball once to the Chiefs and once into touch .... nice aimless shyte

Also knew it was a matter of time before the Durr Brothers would lose us a match due to idiotic play ..... thanks for the penalties chops
