2015 MotoGP

This doesn't make any sense to me (maybe I'm misreading it) but if Marquez really did want to assist Lorenzo in winning the World Title, why would he overtake Lorenzo? Surely finishing between Lorenzo and Rossi would help Lorenzo more?

He was trying to get other riders between them. Him finishing behind Jorge would have been blatant race fixing.

Lorenzo calls Rossi's 'strategy' into question

the doctor who became a patient

Jorge Lorenzo has responded to Valentino Rossi's 'new strategy' that saw him verbally attack Marc Marquez, and claimed the Italian wouldn't have made this outburst “if he was the fastest one.”

Rossi called Marquez's Phillip Island race strategy into question on Thursday in an astonishing attack, claiming it was disrespectful.

Prompted to respond, Lorenzo felt this was wrong, considering Rossi used similar tactics – fighting with his rivals before posting an explosive final lap – when he was racing the likes of Max Biaggi and Sete Gibernau.

As he spent the majority of the Australian Grand Prix ahead of the chasing pack, Lorenzo said he wasn't best placed to determine whether Marquez had used questionable tactics in his race-long scrap with Rossi and Andrea Iannone, or indeed whether Marquez intended to help Lorenzo.

But he seriously doubted the validity of the latter, and believes they were “strange” words when viewed alongside Rossi's track record of toying with his opponents in the early four-stroke MotoGP era.

“No,” responded the 28-year old when asked if he felt Marquez was attempting to aid his championship cause in Australia. “No because mainly I was in front maybe 80 percent of the race. I was leading the race so more or less I didn't know what happened on the back.

“Secondly I really believe he was not helping me during the race. If he was he would let me win the race and give me these five points and give me the opportunity to [just] depend on myself. But you have to ask Marquez what was his strategy. I think he responded yesterday what he thought.

“Anyway I don't think it's a good strategy from Valentino because the accusation is exactly the same as in the past he did when he was winning the world title with his rivals. With Biaggi, Gibernau, Ukawa. He was a little bit playing around during the race and then on the final lap he push and win the race. So it's a little bit strange that he speaks like that after what is his past.”

Pressed on whether he felt Rossi's claims were a sign of the Italian's nerves at this advanced and critical stage of their enthralling championship battle, Lorenzo continued that this verbal attack stems from Rossi knowing he doesn't have the pace to win the final two races at Sepang and Valencia.

“I said before in Spanish if he was fast enough to win these two races he would not say these kind of things because he would win the championship by more than eleven points. But maybe he's afraid to get the championship a little bit more complicated because it's not enough to fight mostly with Marc, me or Dani at these tracks. I think it's a strategy, no?

“I think I have responded before,” he replied when pressed further. “If he was the fastest one he would not speak about these kind of things. I think this time it was not the right strategy to be honest.”

Quizzed on the significance of the final race of 2013, when Rossi didn't run the pace of the leading trio as Lorenzo needed to win and Marquez to finish off the podium to clinch a third premier class crown, the Majorcan insisted he was only thinking of the present.

“I don't want to speak about 2013, which was two years ago. But it's true that the race was quite slow and he didn't try any overtakings. I don't know why. But this is the past. We are thinking now about the championship and I don't want to think too much about the past.”

like i said Rossi is an accidental multiple world champion , competition back then was not tight , these Spaniards are giving him sleepless nights

Well this has certainly added spice to the last two rounds. Don't be surprised to see some on track argy-bargy this Sunday. Can't wait!! :)

Son, I'm going to go ahead and assume you just started watching MotoGP this year... Mmkay. Ignorant post is ignorant.

Rossi is a good rider but has been obliterated since 2010 by one or more of the riders = Stoner , Lorenzo , Pedrosa and Marquez.

Casey Stoner made the Ducati work Rossi failed dismally

Brother, Rossi is 36 years old. He's been racing World Championships since 1996.

Tell you what, lets do this by the numbers... Rossi has 328 GP starts, 112 wins (34%), 61 pole positions, 93 fastest laps and 9 World Championships. Let me add, he won the '97, 125, '99, 250 and '01, 500cc championships when they were still riding two strokes, and he was the first to win a championship on a four stroke in '02... Riders beaten in his championship years include Pedrosa, Lorenzo AND Stoner (who made the Ducati work).

I'ma break down Casey's numbers for you as a comparison... 176 starts, 45 wins (25%), 89 pole positions, 33 fastest laps and 2 World Championships.

Let's do Jorge now... 230 starts, 60 wins (26%), 60 pole positions, 31 fastest laps and 4 World Championships.

How about Dany? 242 starts, 50 wins (20%), 45 pole positions, 61 fastest laps and 3 World Championships.

Finally Marc... And let me say this first... This kid could be a great as well. He's 22 years old and, provided he doesn't get hurt, could be doing this for the next 10 years or more. 130 starts, 50 wins (38%), 58 pole positions, 46 fastest laps and 4 World Championships.

The numbers don't lie and Rossi's are phenomenal.

Also, using the example of Casey making a bike work where Rossi couldn't is short-sighted, especially when the rider you're dissing came right back to beat Stoner for the Championship the very next year.

Rossi is in a class with Agostini, Hailwood, Nieto and Doohan. He's one of only three riders with more than four premier class World Championships... Better than Lawson, Roberts (Snr), Rainey, Spencer and Sheene. If you think any of these guys were lucky or raced against weak opposition, you're loosing it... If you're a biker or a MotoGP fan, this man has more than earned the respect he gets, and he should be getting more from you.

like i said Rossi is an accidental multiple world champion

I do miss the days of Schwantz and Rainey tearing strips off each other...that was the Golden Era for me. Doohan and Rossi at their peaks were so clearly ahead of their contemporaries, that it became routine to expect them to win.

MotoGP and F1 are missing the rivalries that make the sport interesting.

Rainey and Schwantz were at each other for nearly ten years..! Hated each other when racing, became great friends after Wayne's crash. Kevin did a race at Suzuka a while back wearing a Rainey replica helmet. So much respect...
I loved KR (Snr) vs Barry Sheene... Kenny apparently once said the only reason he got out of bed was to beat Barry Sheene and Sheene definitely flipped Kenny the bird while overtaking him during '79 Brit GP :D

who were Rossi s adversaries before the young guns came along ? Biaggi , Umaka , Loris , Hayden,Roberts ,Sete ,Ueda etc and what were their win ratios , pole positions a? All i am saying is Rossi has never met this kind of competition before which is why he is a multiple WC. For instance Loris has 217 motogp races and only 9 wins and 13 poles. Max Biaagie 127 races 13 wins and 23 poles. Kenny roberts 185 races 8 wins 10 poles. Ueda 160 races 13 wins 19 poles. sete -84 raves 12 wins 12 poles.

Today Rossi has competition left right and centre

Did you just miss where I said he beat Jorge, Dany and Casey again? Also, excluding Vale, you just casually wrote off eight World Championships right there...

I'll leave this here... Fans will know what's coming.

1st, Vale. 2nd, Lorenzo, 3rd Stoner. 6th, Pedrosa...

all i am saying is Rossi never faced this much competition before ,had he i doubt he would have won 6 Motogp titles.

Wow! As Nick Harris said, Rossi's battle only starts now. He's going to have a hard time convincing the stewards that this was just a racing incident. He'll be lucky to hang onto his championship points, nevermind just keep points for this race result.

Great drive from Pedrosa. Untouched and untroubled.

Pretty disgraceful from what I saw...suspension and points docked would be the least I expect. Motorcycle racing is dangerous enough as it is without the riders indulging in WWE on track.

3 penalty points for Rossi. He has to start from the back of the grid at Valencia.
To me, even though Marquez made contact first, Rossi initiated it. He was clearly at fault for the accident.

Btw, how great was the Moto 3 race. Championship will only be decided in Valencia as well. And well done Brad Binder. SA rider getting his first 2nd place of the season.

Yho...only saw the race now. Blatant by Rossi there. The fighting was relatively clean until then..those looks he took. Wow. Think the sanction was weak..Marq could have been injured badly.

Great race by Dani though, finding his groove

Marquez was deliberately delaying Rossi.

“Finally, we actually believe there is fault on both sides.

“Despite what Marquez said we think he was deliberately trying to affect the pace of Valentino. However he didn't actually break any rules. Whatever we think about the spirit of the championship, according to the rule book he didn't make contact. His passes were clean. He rode within the rules.

When deciding on the penalty, Race Direction also took into account some 'provocation' from Marquez.

"It's my opinion on the way he was riding, the lap time, my perception is that as many riders do he [Marquez] was trying to change the race," Webb said. "But I was very clear with him that he didn't break a rule. So he's not been penalised.

"However we took that into account when making the penalty on Rossi, that he certainly had some provocation. But, as I said to him, it doesn't matter what the provocation is. You can't react in a way that causes a rider to crash."

MotoGP Race Director Mike Webb

Rossi further admits that yes, he did run Marquez wide to slow him down and he was looking at him to literally ask him ''What the f*** are you doing?''.

"When I go wide, I slow down, we almost stop and I look at him to say, "****, what the **** are you doing?

This isn't the first time a rider has accused Marquez of being a prick on track.

Pedrosa, Lorenzo and Bautista have all in the past 2-years accused Marquez of questionable on-track antics. This year he ruined Bautista's Qatar race by destroying his braking system in a bone-headed passing maneuver.

Rossi pushed the bounds, but Marquez was not innocent.

Marquez is coming across as a vindictive babyfaced devil , who wont let go off wrongs done to him whether unintentionally. For the sake of argument in Argetina Rossi made MM crash. And i agree with MM the last corner clash at Assen was Rossi"s Fault but what does he have to say about 4 other crashes in Italy , Catalan , Britain , and Aragon. This is the guy who had to change to the 2014 bike because he was crashing with the 2015 bike and kept crashing with the 2014 bike on his own accord. He needs to grow up or he wont be WC again. If he hadnt pushed so hard for a win and finished 2nd twice and 3 rd twice in the 4 races that he crashed himself he would be looking forward to retaining the WC in Valencia

Tell you what though - whatever one's position on the matters above - the drama makes things interesting and Valencia will be an awesome race. With Vale fighting from the back and Lorenzo pushing upfront...wow..salivating
