My fellow car peeps, mechanics, and Suzuki Swift owners - I'm here to add to the growing list of issues that these cars seem to have.

The LED Headlights on the GLX version of the car seem to spontaneously but consistently dim and brighten. It's slight but noticeable.

This happens all the time - while idling, with the AC on, with the AC off, when the car first starts and when it's been driving for a while.

I've mostly only driven higher-end cars and have chosen to downgrade recently so I'm wondering if this is normal for cars at this price range?

TLDR: LED headlights dim and brighten slightly and erratically under all circumstances.

It's a 2025, so presumably there is still warranty left, if you didn't buy it brand new..? If so, take it to the dealership and make it their problem..

unfortunately your gen/model swift is Maruti Suzuki, not known for quality..

Is it both sides or just one?

I believe most cars with LED DRL do have ambient light sensors and will adjust accordingly.

Nah it's not normal. It's under a long warranty. Take it back, show the mechanics what's wrong and they will fix it without any quibble.

There's nothing wrong with the quality of Suzuki even if they're assembled in India.

In fact I'd say that your Swift would be more reliable than the current gen Japanese Swift Sport which comes with a turbo engine that can suffer lots of limp mode issues on South Africa fuel like some other hot hatches, but most of the resident forum idiots don't know anything other than the 320d.

In the Fronx whenever you enter a tunnel it switches on the headlights and dims the infotainment and then goes back to normal DRLs upon exit.

If his infotainment is dimming too then it might be a loose connection with the light sensor or another an issue that the dealer can have a look at.

Those light sensors are day/night sensors and would only switch the lights on/off based on day/night conditions.. doesn't do dimming..

Nah, it's not the regular automatic on/off dimming that you'd expect in low light conditions. Definitely a quality / electrical issue. It almost looks like individual LEDs in the headslights are turning on and off.

Appreciate this. My OP was incorrect, actually. After going for another drive this evening I noticed that the lights are stable and the beams are strong when first starting the car. It seems that they start acting up after a bit of driving. An overheating issue, maybe?

Will definitely be taking it back in the new week for the techs to look at.

I'll keep you updated on the results.

Maybe a relay / triac in the computer switching by itself. If you might pin a certain condition, it might helped the workshop. Friend had a toyota, as the computer did not see his fault, they could not fix it.

I'll do a bit more research and see if I can give them something to work towards, yeah.

A relay issue is a good shout, thank you. Anything else off the top of your head that it might be? I'll send them a video of the issue too.

Cross fingers.

This new cars, wonder how the led light is working, old cars had a relay and maybe a fuse. Led got a driver ? and where. Does it still use a relay. Is the dim and bright two different [globes}?.

Update: The Suzuki dealership where I purchased the car could not find the issue, predicted:

Friend had a toyota, as the computer did not see his fault, they could not fix it.

They sent it off to be assessed by Suzuki SA HQ who have determined that both headlights on the car need to be replaced (under warranty, thankfully).

ETA for the claim to be created, processed, and car repaired: 1-2 weeks

Will keep you posted on the end results but for anyone who may face this issue and come across this thread: take the car right back to your dealership, try give them as much info as possible, and be prepared to be without a car for a couple of weeks.

Surely you can still drive the car (during daylight hours when you don't need to utilise the headlights) - until such time that Suzuki SA informs you that the parts are available - then you take it in to the service centre @ 07h00 & collect it (with shiny NEW fully functional headlights) @ 16h00 THE SAME DAY - so you are only without the car for about 9 hours?

You're spot-on. I've amended my previous update. Got a call from the workshop who told me exactly the same thing.

This.

Headlights are either on or off - they don't dim. DRL's may dim to make the indicators more visible etc, but the headlights themselves never dim.

Well DRL’s don’t dim either.

They just turn off entirely or in sections so the indicator can be seen.

Or I would imagine in some case it’s literally the same light that switches to orange.

My Volvo V40's LED DRL's dim when the LED headlights are turned on. They also dim when it's parking lights only. They are on full brightness in full sunlight.

I have a 2025 Suzuki Swift GLX as well. The DRL’s definitely dim when the LED Headlights are turned on. The DRL on that side switches off completely when you indicate.
