24/7 Shaping SERIOUSLY????

I'd just like to add to this thread regarding shaping on Premium Uncapped. Since the new network, personally, I have almost never been shaped. I seem to be able to torrent and download during whatever time of the day at full speed.

There was an instance about 2 weeks ago where torrents were running slow during the day for a few days but even then my normal http downloads were full speed so I'm not sure what was happening there. The only time I've had bad speed is when there are other people reporting the same problem on the Afrihost feedback thread.

I'm on a 4Mbit Premium Uncapped and use, on average, 370GB per month. This month so far I've managed 470GB though.

Awesome to hear that you're having a great experience :D

I still want to hammer home though, I hope none of these capped free data promotions ever cause my experience to change. I know I keep saying this and the AfriReps keep saying that if it starts affecting the network negatively that you'd cut down on the promotions, but still I just want to say it. Also I edited my comment you quoted.

We've learnt from the past, we wouldn't offer something if it would have a negative impact on our network.

OP used about 300GB and was getting shaped, even so far as ClientZone to say he was being shaped. Haven't seen that shaping policy reflect in my ClientZone for a while. Interesting that it would show up on a user with only 300GB.

I wish that were the same for me but on my account it has been showing that shaping has been applied since the early days of the month which is weird since I do have an 8mb premium bundle and have only reached 300gigs by the 26th. Since bringing up this issue over here I am getting so much support from Afriguy which is really impressive as he is making every effort to assist me and iI'm really glad that their support system has been and is catering for the needs of their clients *Thumbs up to them

Data Buffet is working well, should at least take it into the new year to get better idea of how well its doing. A few months wont say much, as the longer time would allow for a much better way of looking at it. Long term is better than a quick one where most people are just going crazy because they know its ending soon.

Durban vs Cape Town

Is that a hint of acknowledgment that AH was charging for services it could not deliver? *whistle*

This one made me laugh as WA is the only service provider I know of that shapes their capped account. Ask WebAfrica helper he will confirm this.

I am on a capped WA and the only time I get decent speeds is between 00:00 and 08:00 otherwise DL is at about 10% of line speed. So much for "best effort"!!

Do not touch WA capped if you want good performance

Yeah, imo WebAfrica is the worst ISP straight after OpenWeb. They can die in a fire for all I care. The prepaid data we bought from them last week (at R70/gb I'll remind you) ran like dog crap.

R70 a gig wtf.
I pay a lot less than that for mobile data

what kind of a band is this? :D

Yeah, it's insane. They've been charging those prices for prepaid data since at least 2010. In fact, they actually shaped them worse so now you're paying more for less.

I have no idea where the toss WA get off on these costs.
