R1.20 M/B so if you use another 2gb per month, the charge will be an extra R2400 per month (16 x the cost of the 1st 2GB)
Think they should write something in the CPA that one may not charge more than double the cost for OOB rates than the in contract rate.

Comeone Vodacom drop to OOB rate or allow poeple to use prepaid or topup.....

I am not an expert on the CPA but I wonder how the CPA views contracts where a "barely-functional" system is supposed to prevent the customer from exceeding a hard cap.

Regarding the call limit feature. Vodacom will do its utmost to lock the line as soon as the limit is reached...but specially with data....if you download large files one after the other or have multiple torrents running at the same time that will overshoot the limit, the billing system may not have enough time to update with the usage for the limit to kick in. That is where the problem lies. Same goes with voice. If you are on a continus call and the limit gets overshot while you are on the call...the limit will only kick in once the call is ended, the billing system updates.

I see what you saying but why when I have a prepaid sim and I buy airtime and I'm on a call does the line get cut when my airtime runs out? Can't it be the same for data? I presume it's preloaded with 4GB so it should be handled the same as prepaid airtime, right????

how do companies like Cell C manage their 2GB and 5GB pre-paid specials?

Prepaid uses a different billing system than post paid. Theirs presumably works the same or very very similar to ours. For example the prepaid internet starter packs with a modem...where you get the 100mb per month works on our prepaid billing engine and therefore is also real time.

If this promotion was catered for Prepaid/Top-Up Subscribers as well, IMO it would've been more of a hit.

I used to have a Vodacom 1GB per month 24 month contract. Even though I think of myself as more computer literate and technically inclined than most, I still had two monthly bills of over R1000. One was almost R2000. I monitored my usage closely but there were just a couple of slip-ups with game/windows updates which made my bills huge.

So I will go prepaid will CellC even though I could possibly pay as little as R149 for 4GB. Not worth the risk. Go over by just 100mb (which is very easy) and your monthly bill becomes R270.

Agree, it is just not worth the risk.

As far a I'm concerned, not offering Top-Up and this "best effort" stuff can be defined as GREEED!

For every person that goes slightly over the cap, surely there are people that don't use all their data (ignoring the carry over every 2nd mnth) - it's called diversity in electrical metering - so as far as I'm concerned, passing the risk of going over the cap is pure customer molesting and will only stop when competition, such as Cell C makes it visible enough and stops this abuse

I'm currently using Cell C's prepaid 2GB bundle and when my data runs out my connection ends even in the middle of a download or whatever session or whatever I'm busy doing on the internet. For me to continue I then have to buy more data. Now that is the way I want it. I want no surprises come month end.

Cell C dont offer call limit setting to their clients...so if you on their contract option for data you will be in a boat that with no life jackets at all! ;)

prepaid clients wont have to worry about limit locks , as they on a different billing platform / structure

Why don't you guys use the same billing structure for prepaid and postpaid?
Is there a viable reason for this difference?

thats exactly how our prepaid service works as well , infact we send you a notification to warn you that your data is running out and that you will run the risk of using the money that would be available in the account.

This has been discussed and debated ad infinitum in another thread. Let's not get into it here again.

The no-top-up thing is unfortunately a show stopper. That post of the swimmer and the shark comes up again.

What I don't get is they quick to take away any unused data but are willing for you to go over you alloted data. You paid for what they advertised but won't allow you to use it the way you want to.

Nothing has changed...they can sugar coat this promotion all they want, but it's still a Vodacon!

Can't wait to come back to the Vodacom thread and read all the surprised and shocked suckers that got a shocking bill...

and you point is what exactly? if you've been part of those previous discussions then good but don't think we should not discuss it here because you say so.
