3D downloadable content

U cannot run out of content with LG 2D->3D upscaling

LG glasses cost R5 or so each from Ster Kinekor and Nu-Metro and elsewhere  if u have 3 or 4 mates, whose gonna pay R350 for an entry level glasses? If u have kiddies as well, then its even worse.

I personally have 16 pairs of glasses that I already posessed when buying the TV as I got them when watching 3d Cinema Movies, initially free and then for 5 bucks each.

If u have to put the same content side to side with an upscaling LG, the sammy will show 2d on the same content, while the LG will show 3d on all the cheap glasses also on the same content. - Wow I would say - that is really much more than a TV. TV has become a community thing, not only a personal thing. If all are millionnaires, it would still be a hassle watching active 3D as those active glasses would be nowhere to find. Most active TV does not come with any and no-one else have stock.

I truly think that LG have dropped a "BOMB" on their competition that will play out rapidly when everyone realise what have happened (oh so very quickly, and nobody's ready).

Damn you man. Now you got me hanging for a Cinema3D :)

As I've mentioned previously, ask yourself how much 3D your going to do (long term). Sure first 3-6 months going to be using it all the time, checking out all possible sources, formats etc. But you will eventually run out content and the chances are the experience will no long be that fascinating.

But hey thats me, you may differ.

PS: entry Samsung glass can be got for R350.

There are a few great 3D dvd's coming in 2012.

Don't know where you read that, but in my experience Samsung's signal processing firmware is the best out there (scaling, de-interlacing and motion handling), you don't get to be #1 (by a long shot) by producing TVs with mediocre picture quality.

I have the same TV as Roman. The software of the Samsung D6000 is not what you mentioned (terrible) at all.
The Ultra Clear Panel is really amazing even with some sunlight falling straight on it.
Yea, the 3D glasses is expensive I must admit, but 3D is not the only reason I bought the TV for, and perhaps it does not bother me that much because we are only 2 in the house :)

Comes down to personal preference me thinks.

Good luck with the choice.

LG’s Infinia 47LW6500 impressed our testers with excellent 3D depth and crisp image quality. If you doubt the image quality of passive 3D sets, watch the 47LW6500 side-by-side with an active-shutter TV before buying. The 47LW6500’s biggest flaw is that dimly lit scenes tend to look too bright, so consider turning down the brightness level prior to watching 3D content.

For those with Samsung SmartTVs (or Smart BD players & HTB systems), I notice the Explore 3D app (and access to the online 3D library) is now available in the SA apps store. No longer necessary to hack the region in the SmartHub.

Note, you'll need a fast Internet connection to avoid buffering, minimum 4Mbps ADSL, that can operate at line speed.

Fantastic!!
Thanks.

Out of interest, a little while back I saw Discovery showcasing a 3D channel.... Has anyone heard any more? (restricted at work so can't really check).

Wonder if we'll get it....
