Man I hate complaining, and especially in public, but it really seems to sometimes be the only way to get proper help.

Firstly, some of you may have read all the hasles I had with OOB rates etc in my first post here .

Wel this month, after finally getting access to Vodacom4me site to be able to monitor my usage, I saw when I was heading to the 500Meg mark. I then logged on to the vodacom4me site and applied for a 1Gig Adhoc bundle for the remainder of the month. That was around 4 or 5 pm on Saturday. The website states it MAY take up to 24 hours to actvate, fair enough, so after 24 hours I log in and check. The 1 Gig doesnt show on my account info page on the website, but does reflect under active services. I queried this with the call centre and they also thought this a bit odd. It is now more than 48 hours down the line, and it still does not show. How on earth I am supposed to check usage on this extra Gig if Vodacoms site is not up to standard and does not display this?

Come on guys, we are paying for a service which does not exist. 48 hours and not activated, more than 24 hours after a query and no reply? Its shocking.

I can almost guarantee that I will be charged OOB rates because Vodacom has messed up on their side and not properly activated the 1 Gig ad hoc bundle.

Any suggestions, or help?

Is your original 500Meg bundle finished on the usage page or does it still show there is a little left ?
The reason i ask is this, one month when i added a 1GIg ad hoc bundle it only reflected on the usage page when my original bundle was COMPLETELY finished
and then other times it shows up straight away ?

The original 500Meg was finished aroudn Saturday evening when I applied. It showed about 20 Megs left which is probably what I used on Saturday night.

But Sunday and Today it shows all used, but still no 1 Gig data usage....

I just know I am gonna get "driven in, in a clockwise direction" again ...

You've reported it, so they'll sort it and no thread damage (if you'll pardon the pun) should occur.

Cool thanks :)
I don't agree this is not cool. It is also not the first time somebody has reported this problem. Yes you have reported it. 48 Hours and more later and still no 1Gig data available? You better believe it you are going to pay OOB if you not already been charged OOB. That part of the system works perfectly no mistakes. If you still had to pay I would have said cancel the stop order, debit order or what ever they call it.

What are you upset about?

If there was a stuff-up it'll be fixed. Gory has a problem but he alerted the call-desk and, even if it takes time, it will be rectified.

Gory, please keep me in the loop on what happens.

HSDPA sorrows

I'm also having difficulty with my hsdpa, for some reason i cant seem to get a download speed of above 400kbps which is a bit sad, cause i expected it to be higher. I'm using my samsung i600's hsdpa capability as a modem. Could it be the way the cellphone is set up, or only signal problems?

I get a full set of bars when connected. I'm posting a bit late at night I know :)

400kbps? is that like around 40Kb/s?? I'm a bit confused with these numbers. The highest download speed i got with HSPDA was around 160KB/s, and that was with DAP. Without DAP i get about 70 to 80Kb/s, which is normal.

As i understand, your download and upload speed depends on how many 3G/HSDPA users are connected to the network at a time, wether conditions, and how many callers are making a call at any given time(as voice calls has priority over data calls).

Wonder if you're not 'stuck' on 'normal' 3G (384/64).

Run a few speed tests on http://speed.vodacom.co.za and post both the download and upload speeds. If the uploads are always below 64K, you're on 3G, if much higher (200Kb/s+) you're on HSDPA. Then something else is limiting the download.

It is just this OOB thing, I guess, that it has bitten us so hard twice now and has now taken 3 months and still nothing to resolve the issue. Every time I see something about OOB or UBL my blood just boils.

@v3g it is not pointed at you it is the way the system works. As I have been told by 155 he should have received 2 sms's to warn him he is getting to OOB.
Is Gory51 a VSP user if not that might be why he did not receive the sms's.

@Iam3G - There are 8 bits in a byte, so you just need to divide kbps by 8 to get Kb/s give or take :)

Download Speed: 424 kbps (53 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 57 kbps (7.1 KB/sec transfer rate)

I ran a test just now about 3 times, and this was the best one of the 3, still pathetic though. strangely the signal keeps on switching between H and 3G for some reason, doesnt stay on hsdpa for long, Im near fearry glen so i though i would have great reception. if the max of 3G is 384 then i must be on hsdpa, BUT the upload shows that im on 3G still, strange. I dont want to dish out +- R800 just for a roof aerial if its not going to keep me on hsdpa anyway. :(

The download looks like HSDPA, but that 57Kb/s is a dead give-away that it's limited to 64K on the up-link, so something is fishy.

Can you try your sim in a data card to remove your handset from the equation?

You can also check, ......actually PM me your number and I'll check if your profile is correct. But test the SIM so long.

I devided by 10... oops! My bad :o It was close enough anyway

I just did a speed test too here at work. Results are:
Download Speed: 1423 kbps (177.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 348 kbps (43.5 KB/sec transfer rate)

I'm happy with that :)

As you can see, your connection is quite something to be proud about :), but i think ill have to start crying and pray for a signal to come my way. Still I don't realize why it could be so bad, i mean really, the hsdpa coverage is quite good as far as I know.

Something i noticed while doing the speed test is that i used 8Megs of Data. Is this correct? Or was i imagining things??

I'm not really sure but i think that can't be possible from the test alone, as the file being downloaded is about 500kb or something, because i do it about 4 times and only use a few megs. It might be something else that used the connection at that moment, my best guess. :)
