3G/HSPA/LTE Modems

That is strange. It was correct in the past, I saved that page.
CellC, Do you have firmware upgrade for this modem to support UMTS 900MHz?

E220 doesn't support UMTS 900 MHz.

The Cell C table is incorrect (it used to be correct, someone screwed up).

And the other table says that the E220 supports GSM 900 NOT UMTS 900 - it's not the same thing.

Correct specs : http://www.huaweidevice.com/worldwide/productFeatures.do?pinfoId=282&treeId=282&directoryId=2462

HSDPA/UMTS 2100MHz
GSM/GPRS/EDGE 900/1800/1900MHz

ah, that makes sense then. If CellC can confirm that their current tables are wrong then please. I'll go get my refund.

according to the website, the k3565 is only 3.6Mbps down :(
How much are those modems at CNA/Hifi?

Yes, it's only 3.6Mbps, but it's OK. I believe that those shops cell it for R359, or something like that.

Of course, the Cell C E1752 (7.2 Mbps) would be better, but not sure what they sell it for without the bundle (R500 in bundle).

Ask them, and explain your problem and the error on their website (print it before they fix the website). Maybe you get lucky and they give it to you for R500.

Depend on your signal K3565 can be more stable. CellC has an equaliser but doesn't support receive diversity. It will have fast raw speed, but you might be more happy from stable connections of K3565 (Huawei).

100% correct. E220 users beware, the Cell C table is incorrect. Tried for 2 days to connect my Cell C data card, and then purchased the E1752 modem for R650 (which would have been R500 in the special deal).

Now connecting as fast as I've ever been connected to the internet...

Let's hope Cell C infrastructure holds up, unlike the wrong information on compatible devices.

Howzit Bodo, did you buy the E1752 from a CellC store? Did they refuse to make a plan for you seeing as it was their mistake in the first place?

I see they've now updated their website to say that the E220 is NOT compatible with UMTS900. It's still in blue though... noobs =/ (I luckily managed to get a screenshot of the page when it was still listed as compatible with UMTS900 - thanks ginggs)
No one has contacted me regarding the matter, I PM'd the rep and I also told trevor etc...

Going to go in for a refund tonight (still within 7 days). Either a refund and I get the Sim+modem bundle or if they can sell me an E1752 for R500. Hope the salesman will be cooperative.

Edit: Cell_C replied to me, and then contacted me by phone. Since I'm in my 7 day period he asked me to go return it and purchase a new bundle (2gb data sim + modem @ R1499), I've got an email to back me so I'll do that today evening, hope for smooth sailing at the store.

Well, they suggested to get the new modem, to which I replied "no thanx, I just want the SIM card...". So it's a lesson which I've paid for, hoping to help other people now as well. They were still friendly in the whole process though. Requested if I could buy the modem for R500, but they said standard price is R650. Did not know about the "7-day return policy" so tough luck now... :)

went in to the store and the guys there were utter noobs. Really, they stared at the email that I received from the Cell C rep for 10minutes, made a phone call and told me that they'll have to wait for their manager. Asked the guy to then right me a letter saying that I've handed in the data sim. He wrote one on the back of a till slip and said that's all he can do... anyway, just called them in the morning, still waiting for the manager to get in and then give me a call.

IMHO the best thing to do is to keep the SIM and to just cough up and buy the E1752 for R650 - it's just R150 extra, and saves a lot of hassle.

And next time do your research better, just ask on the forum.

yeah, will do. I just saw it as compatible on the CellC website and believed them, won't do that again.
