My experience with the following 3 routers.
1. Netgear: MBR624GU
2. Netgear: MBRN3000
3. Billion: BiPac 3300NX

I use Wifi to share the internet and printer (no Lan cables)

The Billion BiPac’s Wifi stops working after 30 minutes or so. Only works again after power reset.

The Netgear MBR624GU has a shopping list of issues
1. It doesn’t keep proper track of attached devices which causes the printer to “disappear” from the network.
2. When the 3G connection is lost it does not always reconnect automatically (basically never)
3. If you disable the Wifi with the Wifi on/off switch the Wifi doesn’t come back alive like it should when you again enable the Wifi
4. The WPS also did not work on my setup.

The Netgear MBRN3000. This router works. (only have it for a day now but could not find anything wrong yet).

This is the 3 routers I used so far to get one that works and the one (only one) I’m happy with is the MBRN3000.
 
I have a D105 sitting on my desk. Will be posting pics and details in the next few days.

I like the all in one thing but the range is not going to be great with only a 50mW radio

So I tried a 5m extension cable and the router don't see the USB modem at all. I guess it is not a "good" cable as it is fairly thin. Anyhow, I think the shorter the extension cable the more stable a long term permanent connection will be. I've now plugged it in directly into the router, will see how long my permanent connection lasts this time.

A shorter cable will give you much better results. A longer cable has the benefit of better modem placement to achieve better speeds, but you will need a much thicker cable firstly, and your router should also be able to supple sufficient power, as the resistance is much higher on a thick cable.

Did not have a chance to look at the specs properly. But agree, they should have increased that a bit... Mind you, they should at least double it! The benefit is that it supports all major connection protocols, so for the next few years, you should be able to take full advantage of the speeds that ANY cell operator will provide in SA. Think it is still a little while before LTE will be implemented here, but even when it does, no need for a new modem. Could not get a price on this yet, but I am sure they will retail close to the 3k mark

There's no need to spend anywhere near R3000.00 on a router these days. The TP-Link MR 3220 costs R399.00 and it just works!!
 
I think he meant LTE routers would be about 3k...

Exactly what I meant. This is much more than just a router and should support any broadband access that our operators intend to implement in the next 5-10 years. You should ALWAYS be able to utilise the fastest network by just popping in a simcard from that operator. No need to keep on buying new modems to support their technology
