3G/HSPA/LTE Routers

IMO, aside form the review I wrote for the TP-link router, is that the TP-link proides the best value for money out there. Can't find a cheaper router with those specs.

For R500 (not talking about the special) you getting an adsl router which supports both WIFI (300Mbps) and your usb dongle and the customer support is great.


I think I spotted a local distibutor rep (kernal) commenting on the forums and also someone managed to contact the manufacturer (in China) and got a very good response.

So there.

PS I have never had a problem with my TP-Link.

Not sure if I missed it somewhere but does the MR3420 work with the Vodacom k4505z?
 
Finally got my Netgear MBR624GU, so far so good.. feels as stable as my ADSL used to be.
 
Got myself the little Huawei D105. A bit of a problem setting up, but it is now working perfectly. Getting the following speed, but still look if I can't find a better place in my house.

 
Just purchased the TP-Link router today. I must say set-up was very quick and without any problems. I also have the Sitecom router, but i am not so impressed with it. Very difficult to set-up. Still not working 100%. But very happy now with the TP-link, it will replace the Sitecom. Wasted R1300 bucks!!!! Running the TP-link with CellC black speedstick.

I've also just purchased the TP-Link. Worked straightaway without a problem. I'm using the Cell C black dongle. And I don't get the problem where it takes a long time to connect.

Just ordered a TP-Link as I picked up the 5GB CellC bundle today. However, I thought it wise to get the ZTE modem (MF668) due to all the heating issues with the E1820, now I see that TP-Link says that the modem is supported (was "field tested" as per http://www.tp-link.com/common/subject/3g-router/compatible/list/?site=en ), but the only South African bin file on TP-Link's site is for the white MF190.

Could anybody say whether the new CellC black modem, the ZTE MF668, is supported on the TP-Link routers yet? Kernel, perhaps you can help?

They only list bin files that have recognition issues in the latest release of the firmware. The MF668 is listed as supported, so you're sorted :)

Pity, it is a nice toy, an updated version of the Huawei E585.

It does work with Vodacom :)

I am looking for new firmware, the E583C does work in Oz and Hong Kong on UMTS900MHz - no luck so far, though :(

I now have a generic Huawei branded E583C, this is the one sold in Hong Kong.

This one works fine with Cell C, and supports SMS.

Wish that I could copy the firmware off this modem / router, and copy it to the T-Mobile branded one, I am certain that the hardware is identical.

I have not yet seen firmware for any Huawei 583C on the internet - can anyone help with this ?

I find that if I set the router "3G only" then it connects in less than 2 minutes.

If I set the router "WAN preffered" - Use WAN as the primary access, 3G as backup - then it takes longer for Cell C to connect.

Also make sure "Max Idle Time" is set to "0" under connection mode. It comes set at "15" minutes.

Aaaaaand yet it does not. Picks it up as "Unknown modem". :(

Anybody any suggestions? Think CellC will be willing to swop it for the Huawei?

EDIT: Also updated to the latest firmware...

Couple of updates: TP-Link send me some new firmware which I will try tonight. Doesn't look the same as one the website.

Uniterm has been informed about the incompatibility between the MF668 and the TP-Link router and they will work with TP-Link to solve the problem.

CellC won't swap the ZTE modems for Huaweis - because 'no CellC shop have stock of the Huawei modem anymore' and there are only refurbished ones available for Huawei owners who have troubles.

Nothing official of course, there isn't even a product page on ZTE's website for the MF668 (and on Cell-C's website neither!), but I have seen a couple of references to this and the MF668 seems to be the only 21.6Mbps modem made by ZTE so it is the most likely suspect.

Uniterm/TP-Link are on the ball, they did solve the problem with the MF190 very quickly.

The newer firmware I got from TP-Link also do not pick up the modem correctly, BTW. I guess TP-Link will need to create a BIN file for the CellC ZTE MF668.
