guys guys guys, so many threads on this.
I had the Telkom Tech rock up at my house earlier today. I told him to GET LOST.
If you haven't noticed by now, when 20+ people are complaining about the same problem it CLEARLY and OBVIOUSLY is _NOT_ anything to do with line attenuation, line noise. OR ANYTHING at your HOUSE!
Please think. And STOP posting the same crap.
Lets try actually find out where the problem is coming from. Everyone effected seems to be from JHB like, however we are all different areas. The problem did seem to start for all of us around the same time though. Which leads me to think, yes the problem is at the exchange, but clearly not.
Since we all on different exchanges, and obviously not every exchange messed up at the same time. Which leads me to believe it is some other point after the exchange.
This is definately a serious matter. And has nothing to do with what ISP you use, or what area you are in (In JHB). And I personally just want to try narrow it down, so when I do call Telkom we can ALL say the same thing to them. The more people phoning in the about the same problem the more chance we have of resolving it.
So if anyone can think of anything USEFUL to add to what more after the exchange it could be, then yeah. Please share.
This is exactly what I'm basing my hunches on. The fact that 4M lines, syncing to 2-4Mbps at a local loop, are behaving precisely like a 512K from a throughput point view. There is no other logical/technical explanation for this symptom.if it was after the exchange, there would be no freaking chance in hell that I would get exactly 512k speeds ALL of the time. so no it is not the line
100%, the thing is one can't assume the location of the on-site techie is neccessarily the location of the fault. All I'm saying guys is that mine is back to normal - I shared as much information as timely as possible - I thought one of the purposes of this forum is to keep your fellow forumites unformed?
Interesting, looks like you've been bounced from one ESR to another. To my knowledge this should be a static thing (DSLAM port -> ESR). Must be have some issues?changed from nngy-ip-esr to ndn-ip-esr
If anyone has a suggestion on how a poll should best be worded please let me know.i am also getitng exactly 55KB/s, 1 thread or 20.. same thing. would be nice if someone could set up a poll or something so we can see how many people are experiencing this?
What speeds do you get with your 4Mb line? (please post more detail in the thread itself)If anyone has a suggestion on how a poll should best be worded please let me know.
Maybe downloading a large standard file located near Telkom's core would prove a bit more scientific? e.g.If anyone has a suggestion on how a poll should best be worded please let me know.
A solid 417 kB/s throughout the entire download.Maybe downloading a large standard file located near Telkom's core would prove a bit more scientific? e.g.
ftp://ftp.saix.net/ls-lR (60MB)
On the link above, right click -> Save target As...
Well that disproves any problems on the ADSL/ATM access side ... or they've fixed it in the interim?A solid 417 kB/s throughout the entire download.
Everyone happy with this? What speeds do you get with your 4Mb line? (please post more detail in the thread itself)
