jeez, didn't know the Kruger Park had 4megWhy does it work out there and not in the middle of bloody JHB GP... :-( My problem is unfortunately more about old degraded infrastructure, will take a bit longer to sort out...
So as of now, how many ppl have had this problem fixed?
As with all big bureaucratic companies, the extend to which ppl are able to help/understand is limited by the defined business processes. The problem will be trying to explain to someone(or something!) that my line is saying 4096 but I'm not getting 4096

An off the wall idea would be to phone them ask to be downgraded to the e.g. 2048Kbps profile. The hope is this may trigger a process which includes the integrity checking of most other service configuration parameters. Then later just upgrade back to 4096.
A real long shot ... but hey if nothing else is working, you got nothing to loose.

Kickthebucket claims to have had his problem fixed.
However I really doubt it was the same problem most of us are experiencing.
I have had a tech guy at the exchange for 3 days now and still no fixing.
It's pretty obvious when 20+ people have the same problem all on DIFFERENT exchanges that the problem must be elsewhere.
So many exchanges can't have DSLAM cards or whatever break at the same time. On top of that. Even if you DSLAM is damaged or there is a problem at the exchange, you will notice a lot more PROBLEMS on your line, like it dropping. Packet loss. Bad pings. And variable low download speeds.
It makes no sense that we all have the EXACT same download speed. That sounds more to me than just a damaged card.
On top of it, KickTheBucket is almost useless when it comes to information. People telling us "I got my problem fixed" really helps the rest of us, ZERO. We need to know specifics so we can pass on to the people we communicate with.
There is a lot of raving about this wonderful photonman. Personally if he is so wonderful why doesn't he read this thread and actually provide us with some USEFUL information. If he is high level enough tech to adjust upload speeds, surely he can shed some light on an obviously serious problem being experienced in different locations.
Personally I would be a lot more greatful to have some light shed on this siginificant problem.
Suppose 'specialist' is the way to go then. Assume someone competent enought to trace your service end-to-end (DSLAM->ESR).tried it, didnt work.
just ask for a specialist
This doc is from early 2004, at which stage if I'm not mistaken, only 512/256 was being provided. I would believe by now they have 3 differing profiles on the ESR (as named by the vendor Cisco, not ESSR) for their 3 products (384/128, 512/256 & 4096/384+).That PDF says ESSR should be limited to 512kbps/256kbps MAX. WTF ?
