I sync at 4Meg down, 386K up but it just sits at a max of 50KB/s. Logged a fault with Telkom and get told that it's happening to all of the 4 Meg people at the moment (which is strange since we have clients with 4Meg lines that are working fine). Fault logged. Tried to explain how it was sorted for someone else, but no joy. Will have to wait for support to call back later.

EXACT same problem :( havent called Tkom yet..

My wife reckons(tongue in cheek)that it is sabatage by Neotel to get us all to join up with them.I am currently hold...........................................ing for Telkom now.Was told that my wait was 10 minutes.God help us mere mortals.

Is this the case for all ISP's or just Telkom? Will it help getting a IS account?

Proff

Received a reply from telkom today at 13:00 that I am only contracted to a 1 meg line down load.Person is totally incoherent and when I pointed out that my speed is 512k not 1 meg did not seem interested. This could be a long story.

OK, wow....

LONG READ...Just read through ALL 10 pages :(

On Wednesday morning my 4Mbit line was working 100%
It synched @ 4096/512...I downloaded at full 4Mbit speed (around 400KB/s)
I went to school, came back, and my telephone was dead, my router tried to synch, and then it would connect, at the incorrect synch speeds (normally around 3000-3500/512).
I logged the problem with it Thursday, today early this morning a Telkom tech came to sort out my problem.

He came plugged in his things and then went to check it out, came back and said it wasnt a problem between here and the exchange and its a problem in the basement/garage of our complex...

So we manage to get him where he wants to be and its a loose wire (as he guessed)
He fixes it, we come back to my place and then BAM, the telephone is working and my ADSL synchs 100%

He leaves then I come back and start making sure my line is normal...it seemed slower than normal somehow...
Thought perhaps its my account or just end of the month thing...
I start downloading from various sites with and without a download manager and the speeds are 512K speeds...HmmZ, perhaps its my ISP...

Get a friend to lend me his SAIX WA account (I have an IS account)
and the speeds are the exact same...tried a different router.etc .etc .etc and its all the same.

I get on here, and to my surprsie...this thread is at the top of the ADSL discussion...so I start looking through here and guess what...
Im now in the EXACT SAME BOAT as you guys.
I tried downloading thoes files and I got normal 512K speeds...its SUPER IRRITATING!!!!
I cant live with 512K down speeds :(

So ill try and see what I can do. Im going to try calling and asking them to do some of the above things which "work"
Hopefully I manage to get my line sorted out and can find out from the person who fixed it what exactly was wrong.etc and let you guys know :D

BTW I stay in JHB - Bryanston :)

The areas that would appear to be the most affected are high density areas.Parts of Capetown,Durban ahd Johannesburg /Sandton.I am in Fourways and was told initially it was a networking problem at the exchange. From my previous posts it is obvious that Telkom has no idea what is causing the problem.

Yeh, im busy dieing here...in a REALLY BAD mood because I cant even browse properly while doing other things on the internet...its ridiculous!!!

Id sooo go NeoTel if they had ADSL.

EDIT: Wonder if we will be upgraded to 1Mb when Telkom upgrades our synch speeds to 8Mb synch speeds? :D

When you log the fault Slip I will be interested in the reason they give you as I am also in Fourways. The desk told me it is tge whole Fourways exchange.

Guys please not the the ATM went down in Fourways and they have been working on it since Thursday. It is back up but degraded due to noise on the exchange they are trying to fix it.

How do you know?
You work for Telkom?

If it is the exchange I hope they're fixing the Bryanston one as well:sick:

Guys I suggest anyone heaving difficulty should call Telkom and give them ***** as they say the problem has been resolved however when you do a speed test it says that I am still running below 512k and then the guy on the phone says that's normal for a 4mb, as it is 400k/sec. I tried to explain that this is not the case as when I did the tests previously on "speedtest.net", it went way over 3000.
I am downloading at about 50k sec as opposed to 400k/ sec.

Bunch of brain dead monkeys.
:(:(:(
