Guys I suggest anyone heaving difficulty should call Telkom and give them ***** as they say the problem has been resolved however when you do a speed test it says that I am still running below 512k and then the guy on the phone says that's normal for a 4mb, as it is 400k/sec. I tried to explain that this is not the case as when I did the tests previously on "speedtest.net", it went way over 3000.
I am downloading at about 50k sec as opposed to 400k/ sec.

Bunch of brain dead monkeys.
:(:(:(

i logged a fault still waiting for a response..

Yeah dude, this problem is widespread and not just confined to certain areas. It's also got nothing to do with the quality of our lines as I've seen my own line stats and they're great yet I still suffer from the 512k-syndrome and frequent disconnects. I'll give 'em a call tomorrow and keep you posted if I have any joy with them.

So whats new with telkom? The problem is so widespread I think Telkom has no answers.Havnt been contacted today yet to say the problem was fixed. Was contacted yesterday by some mumbling genius which after understanding what she tried eo tell me which in effect was that I am contracted to a 1 meg line and Telkom does not guarantee those speeds even although I was downloading at 3,500kbs per second prior to the problem occuring.Maybe lightning will hit the exchange and sort everything out.

i live in fourways and got this same prob and a mate aswell,. and to make life worse my IS account can barely browse now because of this....
any solutiions?

Nope, thanks Feo, spoke to the Techie and they said no no no the problem is fixed. Yeah right, on Wednesday I had 4mb now I have 512k??? WTF?
These guys speak to us like we dont know the 1st thing about ADSL.

RPM can you maybe assist us please?

Solution is to keep annoying Telkom if you can spare the time and money. It took me 32 mins and 15 seconds to get hold of them and another 12 mins. and 53 secs of testing my computer settings before I was told Fourways exchange was "having a problem" By the way Neotel has no coverage in the Fourways area I have already phoned them.God forbid that I must resort to Iburst again. At least I get 1 meg speeds.

telkom dont seen to get the difference between a bit and a byte 400kb/sec (aprox 50kB/sec) doeas not equal 400kB/sec. took me 5 min the other day to get the twit on the phone to understand that.

We were told by the Telkom techi that he would be here at 1pm. That was 6 1/2 hours ago and still nothing. Not sure why he needs to come here as the problem is surely sitting at the exchange.

because first they will come and invade your home, tug around your phone wires, plug their router into your line, climb up every telephone pole in a 1km range and then tell u they dont have the keys to the exchange and ask a specialist to assist :D

When they are done tugging on your wires, they will cut them up and individually join the smaller wires inside with these ugly semi-transparent plastic thingies just for fun.

At least that is what they do every time they come to my house. The one wire from the wall that goes downstairs to another room as an extension has been spliced in at least 3 places. It pisses me off. Next time someone is out here from Telkom (which, hopefully, won't be any time soon) I'm going to ask them to replace that bloody wire instead of cutting it up more.

I called them at 6am and they said surprise surprise "it is a network fault". No really? You think?
Lets see what happens although I wont hold my breath. Bunch of morons

you know whats irritating, is that I'm frikin paying for a 4M line. Do you think telkom will refund me for the days that its been stuck at 512.....I dont think so. I logged my fault 2 days ago. Still have not heard a peep.

Am having the same issue

4Mb Line
55kb/s downloads
Kyalami Area

Was told by the techie that it was because I had a 512k account WTF!!

I received a call from Telkom Technical Division at 08:26 this morning. They are looking at the problem. When I informed them that I was told it was a networking problem at the Fourways exchange he told me that was a load of rubbish.I will only arrive home at 19:00 this evening. I will not hold my breath.

Grrrrr

Haha I love it.

When this thread first started I posted so many times, guys hardly made an effort.

I see now it has not improved. I have had this problem for 3 weeks now. I agree with the guy earlier, Telkom should damn well refund my money ! Paying almost this entire month for 4mbit line and this nonsense.

I have lodged almost 4 complaints. I even have spoken to photonman about it.

And NO ONE not even him asking around could find out a single shred of information that could help. That is the worst thing about this problem. NO ONE has a damn clue!!! Which makes us getting fixed almost impossible.

You phone to lodge your complaint it's like playing the lotto, you pray you get through to someone with half a brain cell, but even when you do they can't do anything, but try 'esculate' your fault. Then you pray again that someone with half a brain sees your fault and actually wants to put in the effort to resolve it.

Twice now they have sent tech's to my house and I have had to tell them to leave, knowing that the fault is not possibly got anything to do with anything at my house.

As I have said in my other posts, it can't even have anything to do with the exchange, how are so many of us effected over different areas in JHB?

Argh I dunno, this is really the most frustrating thing ever.

Just received a call from the engineer on site and he gave me his cell number he said that he tested it and it is definitely running at 4mb. He asked me to please call him when I get home to see if it has been fixed. I seriously doubt it but who know maybe I will be surprised.
