got a call from Telkom at 9:30pm amazing!! Fault seems to be at the highest level now...will send techie tomorrow lets see. Apparently this has been a huge problem across Gauteng, they say they have a huge problem with load shedding affecting the exchanges and damaging equipment.

I'm back!!!

Yeeeehhhhaaaaaa!!!! I'm back at 4Mbps. Damn it feels good. Sabelo at Telkom ADSL Technical Support, take a well deserved bow. You've done, in 20 minutes, what many of your colleagues couldn't do in 2 weeks.

Thank you, thank you, thank you...:D

What did he do?

What did he do?

He logged into the exchange and re-created all the services on my port. I was asked to switch off my modem while he was busy. The speed test before he started was 464kbps, when he finished and I re-connected, I was back to 4Mbps. It's that simple. I can't believe the other 6 or so people I dealt with didn't think to do that.

What number did you dial to get to talk to this guy?

FFS!!! I just booted up my PC this morning. Firstly, I have no international on both my Telkom and WebAfrica accounts and secondly, my speed is back down to 512kbps. Who do I have to kill to get the service I'm paying for???!!!!!

F**k Telkom!!

Hahaha!

Sorry dude I FEEL YOUR PAIN!

I am on the phone RIGHT NOW with Telkom.

Telling the guy to do exactly what you mentioned! GUESS WHAT!

It does NOTHINGGG! He has RESET my services like 5 TIMES. Tried different speeds, tried reassigning it, EVERYTHING he can do.

And nothing. Still the exact same speed.

This problem is CRAZYYY! No one knows what the hell!

Speed issues

Download transfer rates are 10% DSL offering, i.e if you have 4 meg, a download from http://www.telkom.co.za/athome/products/dsl/speed.html should average 400K, 1 meg = 100k, 512k=52k.

Copper conditions do affect throughput, but note sometimes port configuration errors cause constant "wrong" speed. Request a DSLAM port reconfigure, i.e. remove the DSL offering settings from the port and then recreate for 4meg, which does resolve. Also note a 4 meg can be downgraded reconfigured for stabilising a link, normally to 1meg, and not to 512k. With customer permission, 512k or 384 K can also be configured, but Telkom will send a techie, so ensure you get a fault report ref.

Obviously you have not been reading this thread. THE PROBLEM IS THAT PEOPLE ON A 4MBIT LINE ARE GETTING 55KB/s WHICH IS 512K LINE THROUGHPUT. Telkom can send as many techies as you request it will not help. You have to dial 375 375 and ask for a specialist

And no it is NOT being downgraded for stability of the link, everyone is getting the EXACT same speed with very good SNR ratios.

FFS, I hate Telkom. Our 4 Meg line is suddenly behaving like a 512K. Since yesterday or the day before. Why can't they just leave stuff alone.

Max speed for local and international is about 50KB/s. Now to call Telkom and have the looooong wait on the line.

lol!

break!!

DOesn't matter WHO YOU ASK FOR NOW.

NO _ONE_ has the faintest clue as to what the problem is.

Telkom is a fat joke!
