My friends had a fault logged for over 2 months and i'm sure it's higher priority than mine is.. This is terrible, something needs to be done about this service.
Thanks for mentioning me there sean. Welcome to the Telkom bad service truck. Don't expect a soft matress landing when they chuck you in the back of the truck with everyone else ;)

Amazing how Telkom imports international equipment which works perfectly fine overseas, and doesnt know how to run and maintain infrastructure, and now i'd say over 50% (i wouldnt be surprised if the figure was closer to 100%) of customers have had more than 1, or are currently having some kind of fault which is receiving poor attention.
I dont understand why so many DSL users in this country get spontaneous degradation/cut off of service so frequently. It just makes no sense? It's so bad that you kind of get the intuition that they're doing it intentionally, as impossible as that seems!

there is something wrong with your line, the problem is unrelated to the rest of us syncing at 4096 and downloading at 512

now im starting to get irritated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i wake up today, still synicing at 864kbps instead of 4meg... but now AT 864kbps my SNR is 8.5db? when normally it was 18db?

I USE TO HAVE 16.5db syncing at 4 meg.

hate this country.

shame ur international speed sucks, u on IS? before friday night, every day for the past 2 months i got 400+KB/s international or local, now i get 55KB/s EXACTLY, ALL THE TIME, guess what that is exactly what people on a 512k line get, SO YES it is interesting and EXTREMELY frustrating. before now I had forgotten how slow sites load on a 512k line compared to 4mbit, cant even play CS while someone is browsing where people could usually download with limit set to 200KB/s and I'd still have 20 - 30 ping in CS, now anyone opens a site- woop 300 ping

WOW, now that is interesting.

I usually get 55kB/s on international, local for me seems fine.

Nope, I'm on SAIX.

I primarily use my TI account and a WA 1GB prepaid (which is also SAIX based) as a backup.

nope, if i did, i would shoot myself.
but i can do checks via their sytems that they gave isp access to...

feo, looks like your problem is not the same as br34k's. The fact that that you can pull IP traffic at 400kB+ means your problem is not at the ADSL access level (i.e. eliminates misconfiguration/fault on local loop/DSLAM/ATM/ESR).Your issue seems more variable and is IP based, possibly excessive congestion/contention and/or shaping/proxying.

br34k on the other hand is being retarded (no offense) by something more precise like a maximum rate setting (mis)configuration, most likely ATM based.

Same Problem in Durban

Hi All

Just wanted to throw my 2c worth in, Im also having exactly the same problem and I'm based in Durban (Mayville), have logged a fault via the web site but my expectations are low. I've seen a few telkom vans hanging around in the area and Im tempted to corner a techie if I get the chance!

Ah guys I know what this is all about, I just got the newsletter, all 4mbit subscribers have been upgraded to 512kbit for free!!!!!

So as of now, how many ppl have had this problem fixed?

I think you guys need to start posting in this manner:

Syncing @ eg. 4096 384
Location: eg. Pretoria East
Problem started: 21/05/2008
Max download speed: 55 Kb/s

I'm near the Kruger Park and my 4mbps line is fine, not having the problems you okes have.

How are you not having the same problem we have if your MAx download speed is 55Kb/s?
