Greetings. On the 25 of December 2013, I received a sms on my work phone, stating I had loyalty points. I had never used these points before and was curious what I could purchase with them. I purchased a 24 hour uncapped data bundle and received a sms confirming my purchase. I then proceeded to download, various learning and entertainment media. e.g. Top 100 Ted talks, Bash scripting, Kano OS Alpha image, etc.

I return to work and receive a high data usage alert from our secretary at work for an unpaid amount of 42,226.74 :wtf: Final bill is 67000.00 including vat.

After explaining the situation to Autopage and sending them proof that I purchased the data bundle they have refused to re-rate the data :( My company has paid the bill.

I have been on a roller coaster ride of shame, hope, anger, disappointment... and im still going...

Update: Autopage has rejected the letter sent to them on my behalf, stating I am not the holder of the account and have no legal grounds to take them to court. My next step is to contact my HR, which I had done as soon as this drama began but as you can imagine this is a big corporate I work for, they cannot interact with Autopage as it would make them liable. Hellopeter has failed and Wendy Knowler is on holiday.

Still no positive feedback from Autopage or MTN.

To all members who replied to this post, thank you.

Mtn is stating that service must be activating, I stand by the fact that no activation message was sent to my device. How can I confirm this? Or do I have wait for MTN.

What loyalty points are these? I have never got such a thing on my work or personal phone.

The problem is you paid, what you should have done is let them drag you to court and the judge would have probably reduced it to R2000 to R4000 as with another similar MTN case.

Yes I have to agree with everyone here - over my dead body will I pay it. They can drag my ass to court and I can guarantee you any judge would know it could be a mistake - first time offence, not like you do this type of thing all the time, and yeah probably reduced it to R2K. But now that you've paid, AutoPage will drag their feet and not be co-operative in any way, because you have absolutely no leverage now.

33 gigs OBS - crappy xmas spend

OP, did you realise you weren't throttled after 150MB? I surmise this is the MTN 24 hr bundle.

Wouldn't the SMS have said something if that was required? Are people just supposed to somehow divine this knowledge?

Yes apparently, happened to me too. I bought a 2gb bundle and no where did it say activate the damn thing first..
After 2 tickets that were just closed, not a peep from MTN and money lost.

That's insane. How do they get away with this?

Surely they don't have a leg to stand on?

Your company aren't too bright. However I would think this can be contested unless you signed something that makes you liable without second thought about it.

I now owe my company the money and will be paying them back for the next three years, while earning a grand sum of less than R300, after deductions, rent and debt orders. I don't live an extravagant life style. One of my debit orders is to legal wise, They have drafted a letter on my behalf and sent it to Auto page but they(Auto page) has not responded. Big corporate is not sympathetic either. I have been told to, shut my mouth and be grateful I still have a job...

I am pleading to the users of mybroadband for advise.
