For s#1ts and giggles decided to test using different modem - the E3765 from Vodacom.
[Yes, the test took place after 11pm but I have run tests on the 8ta modem too]
Rosebank - E3765
Pretoria - E3765
Cape Town - E3765
Rosebank - E173
Pretoria - E173
Cape Town - E173
*** I will test the 8ta SIM in the E3765 during the dreaded 6-11pm tomorrow to get a better idea of the situation. ***
I've also sent an e-mail to 8ta and will be spamming them with that mail until I get results.
It seems that 8ta branded software and hardware are not as compatible as expected and this might be a possible issue. SHiBBY, for example, is using a 42Mbps modem in Waverley and enjoys 9Mbps Speedtest results.
There are users like hugo69er that use the E173 and get speeds of 5Mbps.
However it may be, I've used my E173 and at best saw 40kbps downloads via torrents, using the E3765 I got results of over 350kbps (though not constant - avg was about 60kbps).
8ta's service suck - they need to improve dramatically to regain my trust.
