8ta speeds suck! Report here... [solved!]

Same here.

The service was so bad that I couldn't make skype calls yesterday afternoon.

:(

Guessing it will take a week again before anyone from 8ta responds.
 
My connection is rubbish as hell lately as well, it has been like this for a while now. They say they will get a technician to sort it out but I'm still waiting. Yesterday the ms was 200+ with download speed about 1Mbps. I have resorted to a 1Mbps ADSL line now because of this : /
 
Why wait for a Techie can't they just rectify the problems if you forward your details?
Seems the 8ta Rep disappeared....
 
If it persists again this evening, spam their Facebook page with your complaints. It's a bit more noticeable to the public so they are more inclined to listen and take note in such cases, as we learned last year when we had the same issue.
 
Jeesss... this evening is total disaster again! I used my 8ta connection this morning from the office got decent, but not terrific speeds, this evening I've battled to do any! The speedtest.net local server ping test times out! Even had to reload this page a few time! Thanks for the FB tip! Time for me to escalate this issue... CellC here we go again!
 
Dont bother going to CellC because they too are down since yesterday in 2 Areas in PE...down = f#c@ing slow speeds ping of 1000+ and 8ta same thing since yesterday.
 
Effjh... I tried the FB post on the 8ta page... they deleted it a little while after I posted a polite request that someone look into the issue!
 
Pretoria -Menlyn area - Erratic 8ta pings and download speed

Heya,

I've had another super annoying connectivity weekend. Again I couldn't maintain skype calls. 8ta has really gone down since mid Jan.

I found the strangest trend when I investigated.

My ping normally,since October, levels out at 70-90ms for local and 350ish for international. At the moment it seems to fluctuate.

Local fluctuates between 70ms and 1500-3000ms. International seems to do the same.
It varies but at one stage I would get about 30 seconds of good ping and then 10 seconds of bad ping.
Download speeds seemed to map up with this problem too.

last night at 9:20 it suddenly stabilised again. I'll check it again tonight to see what it is doing now.

Anybody else have a similar problem? Anybody have any ideas on this?
 
The same since 1st Feb. Was getting wrong and stabilised few times. Last two days was stable. Local pings around 40ms. JHB/near Diepsloot

Aaah the bastards are censoring now it seems. Honestly I am developing an extreme hate for this company....They used to give us a fairly decent package to work with, but now their internet service is the most undependable waste of time and money and their customer service is even worse. I mean seriously do they have to be taken to court before they take note of the HUGE amount of customers they are screwing over with their bad service and products.
 
Yeah, I'm angry. Very much so.

I got a 10Gb contract with 8ta and enjoyed screaming high speed downloads via torrent networks (700kbps per torrent!) and very low pings (below 50ms).

That unfortunately changed.
(Sorry, no Speedtest graphic) - Yesterday I had the pleasure to see Speedtest.net report:
Ping: 26ms
Upload: 1.26mbps
Download: 0.14mbps WTF!!!???

Area: Rietfontein, Pretoria

Vodacom makes mince of these figures, and yes I tested them a few times.

I'd rather have average speed all of the time, than screaming fast speeds whenever they feel like it... :mad:

UPDATE: A lady from 8ta phoned me this afternoon (06/12/2011) and aranged for a technician to visit me at home and check the signal and connection.
They made arrangements for this to happen after hours due to my office hours and the long commute home.

UPDATE: An 8ta tech phoned me this morning to follow up on my complaint - it was escalated on the system yesterday.
Since my connection is just about back to where it was before the November drop, I told him all is well. He understood my concerns regarding the issues and pointed out that some towers had some problems that are fixed during maintenance.
Thanks 8ta for actually listening to us. It takes a while but it is worth it!


UPDATE: It's been a few weeks and no problems. I just killed my 10Gb in 3 days! Torrents run at 500kpbs on average.
Ordering the 10Gb Midnight Surfer extra.

EDGE not 3G

Let's see - I decided to try Telkom Internet Starter Pack because Cell C was so pathetically slow. I got it on Monday and got decent (in my limited experience) speed. Today I see has dropped to almost nothing - and I am apparently on EDGE. I am within a 2 km radius of the Telkom shop in Bellville Spectrum Building. I thought if all goes well I'll buy the 60GB pack - but not at this speed.
