A cellphone contract from hell

Sounds like it's a hit and miss affair. 50/50 as to whether you will get them on a good day or not. It amazes me really, the world is starring down the barrel of an economic meltdown yet you still have local companies looking at a customer as if to say WTF do you want?

The strong will survive and the WTF do you wants will stand in line to collect their UIF...

I had problems with MTN, I went to the Pavillion MTN store to port from Virgin Mobile last year. the entire process was supposed to take between 2 and 24 hours. Five weeks later, after complaining on Hellopeter 3 times, they solved the problem.

The story from MTN was that they never received any forms to process my port, yet somehow Virgin received confirmation from the MTN store to remove me from their network, that was done about an hour or two after I started the porting process.

I'm Trying to get a contract from MTN, but their infinite delays are irritating...
(Samsung Omnia i900)

Why would they do this?
Maybe they try to spread the contracts evenly over the months when they have enough contracts for the month or something? So they delay you so that your billing cycle is in a certain period perhaps? Who knows!

Sounds like Vodacom: still billing me for a service even after I was ported and operational on Cell-C networks. This is just the reverse: billing you for a service not yet received...

Sounds like Vodacom.

That begs a question though: Why did I get more service in the 13 months since I have LEFT Vodacom than I did in the entire 10 years while I was loyal to the buggers, combined?

The problem is not really the store front. If a store has the phone in stock, even with problems you will get it quite soon.

The problem is that phones are advertised and marketed as being available, when they are in fact not in stock and not even in South Africa yet. This allows networks to advertise the to have the newest handsets on their contracts. If a network advertise a phone on a specific contract they should be able to fulfill the order within reasonable time.

It is not related to incompetence but a marketing technique known and approved of by the the top level management to detriment of the consumer.

I know this because I waited 6+ weeks (if I remember correctly) for a phone on a contract upgrade - even if this phone was advertised. The stores, not even the upstream suppliers in South Africa had the phone - everybody was waiting for the first stock to arrive from Nokia abroad, which BTW didn't send the phones when the advertisement went out.

Smells like Autopage

It is a sickining smell...

+1000000.

but if u want ur life to become _really_ exciting, try the nokia shop at Vodaworld. took the phone in for repairs, they sat with the phone for over 6 weeks, and when i came to collect it (still not fixed) they tried to charge me an assessment fee. never again!

They learned well

The question is: will either of the two largest mobile networks actually care enough to try and find out which store this is and fix it?

Telkom tought them well!!!! They are even getting better at it than Telkom. And as long as we keep taking it and feel sorry for ourselves by saying "what choice do I have" they will ALL keep doing it. Stop giving your money to bad service and DO NOT sign a contract for more than 6 months. Also stop being prescribed to, and start telling the people taking your money what it is YOU want, NOT what you can and can not...... and if you cant get what you want dont take what you can get.

Sorry that is a bit harsh but we take far too much.......

What gets me that I generally know more about a particular phone that the sales people in the shops. It's clear that most of them have zero passion for the job they are doing, it is simply a way of making money to pay their bills.

some shop are lazy and just have bad service.

I have my contract from Vodacom store in Rosebank mall. Took it out over a year ago, but never had a problem. I didn't keep my number though, but the signing up was completed immediately, and i was given a working sim card 45 minutes later.

I hope this is not the store mentioned in this article, because I really don't want trouble upgrading.

A friend of mines had a similar experience at vodaworld on the weekend though. He went in to find out how much to upgrade his contract to get a BB and they blocked his current line like idiots. He ended up spending the full day there... IDIOTS!!!

I've had very similar issues with Autopage. They delivered late and took more than 10 days to activate the new sim card that I had received, eventually they sent me a new sim card and this worked. But then I could not sms out, which they fixed. I could not see who was calling me, which they fixed.

Last yeay upgraded my contract at Vodashop in Fourways, for two months paid for a higher contract while i asked that i requested a lower one. Everytime i had to call them and was told we will call you back, like when... I had to go there to get it solved and told lets wait and see what will happen next month.

When i check on the first of the month, still the higher contract, go there, told we will fix it and lets see the next month, on the second month told them I threw a big thing and told them i an not paying, then it was sorted and not even an apology.

I applied for a phone and contract for my daughter on Wednesday afternoon. Got acceptance notification yesterday morning. Received the phone by courier this morning. Thanks Nashua Mobile!
