I'm busy moving over to FNB, added all my ABSA charges for last month and it came to a staggering R480 for internet banking, a gold credit card and a gold cheque account. On FNB I'll be paying R90 all in for this!![]()
I just noticed the following on my transaction history:
2008-02-29
INTERNET BANK FEE
R -19.95
2008-03-01
ADMIN CHARGE
R -19.00
2008-03-01
MANAGEMENT FEE
R -15.00
What are all those about? Unless I'm mistaken it is usually about R20 a month, not R50? This is a student savings account.
By the way Nedbank have a cheque account at a fixed fee of R85 per month INCLUDING the cost of Interet and Cellphone Banking. If you can put up with the slow/pedantic service at the branches then it is not a bad option. I use electronic banking and never go into a branch so it suits me.
If this is reallly true, then Internet banking and Debit orders would be free to encourage people to stop dealing with cash.ABSA also have one.
We have to pay high charges because of armed security costs, atm's being blown up, cash in transit heists, bank robberies...
i have not paid a cent in fees in the last 3 years.
I'm with Pick n Pay Go Banking and offer free banking overall.
On an average month I do:
10 debit orders
10 payments to third party beneficiaries
4 cash withdrawls @ Pick n Pay tillpoint
All I have EVER pay is R12-00 per month for internet banking fees.
The ONLY condition: keep a balance of R5 000-00
Oh, the other issue is that they do not give out cheque books at all.
might not sound like a good deal to some but definitely works for me!
I urge anyone who plans to cancel their ABSA accounts, to make sure they specify that the account is being closed because of the ripoff banking fees. They need to know that we won't stand for this any longer.
These are my monthly ABSA bank charges.
2008-02-29 INTERNET BANK FEE

2008-03-01 MIN SERVICE FEE

2008-03-01 TRANSACTION CHARGE

2008-03-01 ADMIN CHARGE

I hate ABSA.
Concerning GoBanking. If you have R5000 to "invest" then the GoBanking features are by far the most cost effective. But they offer by far the worst service ever! I was with them for a few years but had constant problems. Things got so bad that I eventually had to contact the CEO to get things sorted out. I then decided it was time to close the account, as the stress it was causing me was just ridiculous.
Remember, GoBanking is basically Nedbank and they are known for their terrible service.
This country is Zims in the making
